Star Trek: New Faces, Right Look?

Just seen this - a comparison of the new actors and how they compare to the old ones:

I think they may have got it spot on with Quinto and Pine... not sure about the rest of them. Uhura seems a ringer, but what is the point casting a Latina lady, no matter how attractive?

Simon Pegg may well be the "dark horse" here. He looks nothing like Scotty - YET!! I can't wait to hear his Socttish accent!

Whay do you guys think?

Have they deliberately gone for looky likeys for a lot of them or is that just an accident of the pics in the article? If they aren't very good then it won't matter if they look like them or not. If it doesn't work it will just look like a bad parody.

The new Uhura is mightily hot though.

I hope not! Perhaps we should all keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!

I think the actors he has gathered are pretty much the best we could hope for (I know people will disagree, but!). They are all experenced, if not famous already in the case of a few.

I only k now Simon Pegg's work thoroughly and he has *never* been involved with a turkey yet. At the moment I am trying to put faith in his judgement!

Fingers crossed!!

Spock and Kirk look great.
Uhura looks nice, but not as hot as the original!
Bones, Chekov and Scotty look nothing like.

I think Bones may surprise us... plus, if you look at Chris Pine as Kirk and then a picture of him not in character, you wouldn't think he would be as much of a "ringer" as he seems now!

I love love love Karl Urban, he is a fantastic actor, and can do no wrong in my eyes!!!:D
PS, it it me, or is Chris Pine boss eyed????

The franchise is already dead (and I'm a fan of Star Trek too!). There's no way he can harm it. If anything, it may breathe new life into a lifeless, damaged franchise. I'm looking forward to the new movie. I really hope it turns out well.

Fans and non-fans have the option of not watching it when it comes out. No one is forcing anyone to see it. It's pointless to complain about it since it hasn't even been released yet. Watch it first (when it comes out) then complain or praise it.

They were never supposed to be dead ringers for the classic series actors. The only one they went out of their way with was Zachary Quinto as Spock, and that's because Leonard Nimoy's Spock also appears in this movie so they need to look alike.

I don't care if Simon Pegg is nothing like James Doohan as Scotty, as long as he can do his own decent version of the character.

How do you know it is a fiasco even before release? Is there wide discussion to this effect elsewhere already or is it just your opinion?

:)

Uhuru - Zoe Saldana - Unsure
Sulu - John Cho - NO
Chekov - Anton Yelchin - No
Scotty - Simon Pegg - A joke yes!
McCoy - Karl Urban - Fashion model statement?
Spock - Zachary Quinto - Pretty close
Kirk - Chris Pine - Crikey! that's close

I thought that it was established that this movie would not be a direct prequel to the original Star Trek series, but a reboot to the franchise. If that is so, what does it matter if the cast resemble the original actors or not?
