Star Choice Dish Usable with BEV receiver?

Hello all,

Hope this question isn't too stupid or make everyone laugh :p but my buddy has a Star Choice dish mounted on his house left by the previous owners. If we re-aligned it for Nimiq could it possibly work with a EV receiver??

Short answer: Nope.
Something to do with polarization.
I'm sure many after me with provide the exact details.
 
I seem to recall various posts suggesting you can use a *c dish for BEV. Perhaps the issue is LNB - I'd be surprised if a *c LNB worked with BEV, but a dish is just a metal bowl, so *c dish should work if you can figure out a way to install BEV LNBs to it.
 
I believe the pan can be used but different bev/dish compatable lnb must be used. The arm has to be shortened as well I believe and the dish realigned, there should be some info on the net.
 
Their OLDER 24" & 30" round will be OK with a DSS LNB attached for use on ONE satellite.

I've personally used the 24" and 30" with DBS LNB's and they work quite well.

The 60e & 75e *C elliptical dishes are optimized for the 4 degree spacing of their birds and adding the Bev "Y" Yoke is a royal PITA, I tried and didn't have much luck.
Remember the Bev 20" is designed for the 9 degree spacing.

The LNB discussion is correct,
Bev is DBS Circular and uses the 12.2 to 12.7 GHz range with a Local Oscillator of 11.250 GHz.
*C uses a FSS linear LNB and uses the 11.7 to 12.2 GHz range with a Local Oscillator of 10.750 GHz.

You can re-align it and use it for some of the other birds up their that have compatabile LNB's such as the linear Echostar birds at 105, 121 & 129.

If Bev won't cut you a deal on their dish, their is plenty of 3rd party FTA dishes that work well also.
The common 18"x24" with a tripple LNB holder is an alternate.
TIP: use the middle set of holes and not the centre + outside pair, it's easier to align and give better performance.
It emulates the Bev 20" and IMHO does a better job.
Out here they are $55 for the Dish and LNB's run $30 a pop.
 
I use a *C 75e with an LNB adapter and DirecTV LNBs. That's probably not what you want.

OTOH, a 20" EV dish will fit on an old *C 60e mast. EV basically gives away 20" dishes and LNBs to new customers. The coax can be reused. Switches must be replaced with EV compatible units. That's a better way to go for most people.
 
Is the LNB adapter a store bought or home fabrication?
And single or multiple LNB's?

The DTV LNB is interchangeable with a BEV LNB as the polarity, frequency range and local oscillator are the same.
 
It's called a Triax flexiblock lnb holder. I have the duoblock, which is just wide enough. They are available from some satellite retailers.
