Stalin 'blocked two Soviet plans to kill Hitler over fears Western powers would make peace with the Nazis'

Josef Stalin blocked two attempts to kill Adolf Hitler during the Second World War, according to a Russian general.
The Soviet dictator called off assassination attempts in 1943 and 1944 because he feared Hitler

If Hitler had died in 1943, then there would have been no D-Day and no need for the Manhattan Project. The Cold War would have looked very different.

I think that both the Soviets and the United States would have still developed nukes though. Europe and the U.S. already had the basic idea in the late 1920s and the scientific understanding in the late 1930s.

Soviets have battered women syndrome. They love totalitarian leaders and respect those who initiate political coups

the nazis probably would not have made peace in 1943, if anything they would be making better tactical decisions without hitler.

I do agree that there is a 50% chance that this would have happened. But a civil war could have raged as well. There were some not-so-small groups of people in Germany that wanted Hitler out of the picture too.

hitler out of the picture yes, peace? im not so sure, especially in 1943. look how they were treated after making peace in ww1

great movie btw! i think that is a hawker hurricane strafing in africa

If Hitler had been knowingly assassinated by agents of an Allied country, it would have rallied the Nazi party and the German people.

Hitler remaining in power had many positives for the Allies at war with Germany. If Hitler was removed, the country would have rallied and actual accomplished generals and military tacticians would have taken Hitler's places. This = bad for the Allies. Hitler's tactical bumblings allowed D-Day to be as much of a success. It was Hitler's failures as a military leader which lead to Germany's defeat as much as it was the success of the Allies' campaigns.

Both of your arguments are pretty good. It does make sense that Germany was mad about the Versailles Treaty and an assassination of Hitler would have inflated his stature. Also, the war was too far along. Hitler did seem to start leading more through emotion and less through logic in the last years of the war.

Although I still do believe that the Allied Powers knew that many Germans had the same feelings for Hitler that the Soviets had for Stalin. I am sure that many people would have liked to see him gone.

If anyone didn't want to assassinate Hitler it was the British and Americans. The Russians would have overran all of Europe.

the americans should have given the germans lend lease equipment on conditions it would be eastern front only

This is kind of how it happened. After the war, with Operation Paperclip, former Nazi rocket scientists were sent to the U.S. to work on the space program. The U.S. even allied with Germany during the Cold War against the Soviet Union.

I believe there would have been a Cold War either way, regardless of who won World War II. Either America against Nazi-occupied Europe, or America and Western Europe against the Soviet Union.

At one point the Russians were concerned that the Germans were trying to negotiate piece with the American's and British. Stalin was pissed to the EXTREEEEMMMEEE

stalin was paranoid about everything all the time. he locked up a bunch of soviet officials kids when they made up thier own pretend govt

Stalin died in March 1953 of mysterious causes. Some experts in 2003 came forward and said someone in the Party may have put rat poison in his food. But this is still just a theory. Others say he died of a stroke.

the best thing that ever happened was hitler not being killed/dying.

The guy became a complete basket case and made some of the worst tactical decisions of the war. God forbid Jodl or Rommel has control over the Wehrmacht strategy. Probably would have repelled the allies in France and concentrated all efforts on siezing the middle east/caspian oil and capturing Moscow.
