Stacked female characters from children shows? Inappropriate?

Animation is all about exaggeration, and since the female body is generally curvy, the animator exaggerates that. Just like how a lot of males are drawn like triangles.

I don't see how it isn't appropriate for children, it's usually done for humor rather than sexuality.

But anyway, trying to be ontopic, I remember 4Kids actually edited some episodes of Sonic X to shrink Rouge the Bat's bust.
 
The United States has always had problems with the publication of sexuality. Trivial things such as wardrobe malfunctions cause massive uproars amongst the masses, while the rest of the world laughs and moves on with their lives. I can understand why the topic creator asked this question. It would seem like the United States, with its conservative attitudes towards the publication of such things, would be less inclined to have such things displayed in children?s animation. Of course, the notion of ?soccer moms? has been greatly exaggerated, but one would think that numerous people would object to such content.

I mean, lesser things have appeared on the radar of some parental review sites. In that review for ?Chowder?, they felt obligated to list this under ?sexual content?.



Yeah. Real sexual.

So, back to the topic at hand, I believe it?s absurd for people to object to a female character actually having breasts. I would only object to such things if they?re needlessly large for the sake of attracting an audience.
 
This reminds me of a possible edit made in one Fairly OddParents episode.

In "Mighty Mom and Dyno Dad", we see close-up shots of Mr. and Mrs. Turner (why do people call them "Timmy's Mom and Dad"? :shrug:) getting bulked up when Timmy wishes they had superpowers. It shows more of Mr. Turner's body being bulked, including his chest, but avoids showing any such closeups of Mrs. Turner.

Not that the animators were even going to make any sex references, as long as it was within reason, but the show has been known for having PC characterizations on multiple occasions, particularly with Chester and AJ.
 
Honestly, Western animation doesn't really have that problem in my opinion. The only time I can remember seeing a female with oversized/distracting boobs in a kids show was the one-time character, Julie Bruin in a Tiny Toons episode...and I virtually forgot about her until seeing that clip again on youtube some time ago.
 
I never really minded busty women in cartoons. The females of my family are all like that from genetics so that's what I was used to.

The thing I always thought weird was that cartoon girls are all curves. Look at Harley Quinn. She's not big busted but she's got some big hips! :harley: I can't recall seeing a cartoon female wearing a baggy shirt unless she was ultra tomboy...

Just trying to see if any of this occured in US-generated animation and, if so, when.

I'm using lineups like Boomerang and Jetix as an early guide. Going way back, there's nothing all that disproportionate in H-B stuff like Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Josie & the Pussycats, etc.

But if you look at Marvel's offerings, there's a bit more of what we're talking about. Not so much in the first go-round (60s/early 70s), but look at the "evolution" of Sue Storm even between the two seasons of the 1994-5 incarnation:

I won't include She-Hulk because -- let's face it, everything's bigger when you're green. :p

There's even a little bit in Firestar the 1982 "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" show:

But Marvel really hit the gas pedal with the Fox Kids X-Men series. Storm, Rogue and Jean Grey/Phoenix weren't drawn with much conservatism.
 
I grew up watching these shows and again I never noticed this stuff. I was much more exited by the giant robots. Much of this stuff is far more upsetting to the parents then the kids to my mind.
 
For stacked female characters, I thought it wasn't an issue. Surely, there were some times in a series where Character X had huge assets and other characters would be either jealous, or make constant jokes about the size of the female's chest.

I think it could also be telling of her character in a way, that she's :

1) a sexpot brimming with so much sexuality, that she can get away with basically anything she wanted either good or bad and use them to her advantage;

2) an average girl with an above average chest just trying to live her life being constantly reminded of having a larger chest than others;

and/or 3) a random girl that is there just for eye candy in a series, in my opinion.

Also, I kind of though that Flannery was stacked in Pokemon.:shrug:
 
I can't believe this is a debate.

Boobs exist. Should kids stay away from the beach in case a woman is wearing a bikini top? Or, from, anywhere in case she is wearing something low cut.

Or, maybe we should dress all women like this so no one is offended:

Cartoons don't really have that much effect on children in terms of anatomy. My billions of naked Barbies had a greater effect on me than the cartoons did.
 
Well, some boobs "exist" a bit more than others, if you catch my drift. That's the issue being discussed here. Male artists do tend to overemphasize them, and that practice has been condemned more than a few times in the past.
 
No kidding. But you have to admit the male artistic tendency here. It's a billion times more prevalent in comic books, but imported anime shows aimed at kids may increase the trend.
