Sputtering/Dying 2001 Ford Taurus?

Hello,

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus with ONLY 85,000 miles. My car has been dying randomly on me after i drive longer distances.

I will drive the car and it will work just fine without any hint of a problem. Then i will shut it off and then try to start it again after a few minutes but the car wont stay running.

It will turn over and turn on but it shakes and sputters then quickly dies. I try to turn the key again and then the car eventually doesn't even turn over!

I took it in to the Ford dealership and they told me it was the idle air control valve and paid $350 but it didn't fix the problem and i'm out alot of money!

Being a college student this is not fun and i need a reliable car living in the twin cities of MN. PLEASE PLEASE help me! I don't know what to do next!!!

Thank you!
Yes..i have to let it cool down for about 30 minutes at least before it'll start up again and run
Thanks but i paid for the IAC thing to be replaced and its still doing it...any other ideas?!

It could be the IAC idle air control VALVE. Buy it online for cheap its not that hard to change! Look online for directions. If it is not that it could be the COIL PACK basically where all the spark plugs are plugged into. But it sounds like the IAC.

from my experience it sounds like the ignition control module.does it run good after it completely cools down? if you answer is yes i'd look into the ignition control module. i've replaced many, many ford ignition modules.hope this works out for you
