Sputter! Clank! Choke!

It would have to be lower than 1/4 tank, but yes, that can and does happen.

As I said, my car is 40 years old. You could only imagine what is at the bottom of that tank. Anyway, my gas was siphoned out of my tank to a level i have no idea. I put gas in it but it was took late. It had sucked enough crap up from the bottom of the tank that I had carb problems for quite a while.

My new clear fuel filter is still showing a shit ton of crap in it. Atleast it's doing it's job I guess.

Drop the tank and fix the float man. Although (as you said) millage works too.

Also on some model cars the pump is submerged and leaving a quarter tank helps to cool the pump and make it more efficient.

Yeah, I know it's the sending unit, but I don't want to spend $100 on the part right now. Also, I know the tank is full of crap too, so when I replace the sending unit I will either clean the tank out or replace it. Again, more money i don't want/have to drop on it right now.

I drove it 800+ miles round trip to go see DG last weekend. I'd fill up every 150 miles or so just to be sure lol. Not one issue out of the old girl either. :)

ahhhh.... good old carborated engines. Even when there is a problem... a small set of wrenches and sockets and sometimes duct tape can fix em.
