Sprint Moto Q vs. Helio Ocean vs. iPhone

I'm stuck between the three. The Sprint option would be the most cost effective, but I haven't heard good things about their Q. The Ocean looks great, but a little big, and their plans are quite expensive. Lastly, it would be great to have an iPhone, but is it THAT much better than the other phones that I would get in a contract with AT&T and that I would pay $600 for it? Here are my options.

Sprint:
Motorola Q - $99
SERO 500 Plan + Unlimited Text - $40
Includes 500 minutes, unlimited data, unlimited text and MMS.

Helio:
Ocean - $147.50
"All In" 500 Minute Plan - $55 for the first 12 months, $65 after that.
Includes 500 minutes and everything else.

AT&T:
iPhone - $600
450 Minute Plan - $60
Includes 450 minutes, 200 texts, and unlimited data.

Someone please help me before I drive myself insane deciding between the three.

I can't speak for the Q, but another option on Sprint you might think about is the PPC-6800 aka Mogul. I just got it two weeks ago and so far it's been awesome, plus Sprint is rolling out Rev-A soon so the 'net will be even faster, currently it's already faster than anything I had in the past, and u really can't get better than SERO when it comes to pricing.

Waiting on Apple to come out with a 2nd or 3rd gen. iPhone before I look into getting it.

It really depends on what you plan on using the phone for.

Helio Ocean is great b/c it has all the chat stuff, internet, 3G speeds, a bit bulky but you get two slideout keyboards.

Q - I heard it's stable and pretty easy to use.. kinda ehhh

iPhone is great but pricy. also locked into at&t =(

mogul has all the above, can download 3rd party apps, great speeds, a bit on the bulky side but not bad overall..

hope this helps a bit.. g'luck!

I was definitely considering the Mogul, but as you said, I just eliminated it because it seemed to be too bulky for my taste. I'd like to test one out, but none of my local Sprint stores have one. It looks like a great phone, and now that the price dropped to $288, it's highly under consideration for me. But what about the browser, does it compare to that of the iPhone?

Also, I'm a little tight on money right now, which isn't to say I couldn't afford an iPhone or Mogul right now, but I also would like to buy a PS3 in the near future as well (especially with the $100 price drop coming up next week!). The Q is looking good to me, only because it's just $99.

Before I got my mogul, I was considering btw the Q, Treo 755p, and 700wx.. ended up with the mogul because I felt like I would end up using for a longer time than the other 3 phones.. especially with it being upgraded sometime this year to Rev.A.

Personally the bulk of the phone's not that bad for me because I also have a blackberry for work so in comparison to that brick, the Mogul is actually a nice size/weight. I don't especially need a tiny phone because i'm a pretty big dude and I like having the big QWERTY keyboard that the mogul has.. typing is easy and hardly make any typo's.

$$ wise, it's a slam dunk.. obviously its a nearly $200 difference, but in the long run I feel like the mogul would be more useful but if you like changing your phones all the time, then maybe this point is moot.. either way.. you can't go wrong with SERO.. hopefully you can still latch on to the unlimited text messaging cuz thats the 1 thing i've totally loved since switching over from at&t.

Good luck with that ps3.. I was wondering it myself when I saw the notice about the $100 drop needs more games though (sorry..totally off topic )

I haven't used a Q recently, but when I demo'd one using WinMob 5, it crashed a lot on me. Form factor is great, and it was pretty speedy on Sprint's network, but when it crashed 3x in a row while I was trying to kill time reading websites in the airport, that was it for me :-)

I found the Ocean to be really bulky and kind of cheap feeling. It's pretty amazing in terms of all it can do, but not necessarily amazing at any one of those things (if that makes sense). If you like the form factor, it's a neat device. Personally, I like the bigger, flatter design of a Q over the smaller, thicker Ocean.

I'm getting a Mogul this week to test out, and excited about it. I've read some reviews complaining that it's a little slow, but most user comments I've seen have been really positive.

Unless you plan to watch a lot of videos, need to carry 8gb of media files with you, or really really have to have the multitouch UI, I'd pass on iPhone. WAit for the second or third revision of it, when more features are enabled and the bang for hte buck is higher. Also 3G ... Sprint's data network is fast enough to make EDGE on the iPhone feel rather painful.

Well you really need to decide which carrier you want to go with, i.e. which provides the best coverage when and where you will use the phone: where you live, work, travel, play, etc.

Then decide on the phone since the ones you list are different technologies and can't be used on the other carrier (Sprint is CDMA and ATT is GSM and Helio has very limited coverage).

I'm confused, are you suggesting the Q as your choice? I was considering the Mogul, but I personally don't like the styling of the phone, it seems very bulky.

All the cell phone companies I listed work in the two primary areas I travel frequently flawlessly. Sprint's pricing is the best, half of what the other companies are charging. My only issue is that they don't have the greatest phones, most are old and outdated.

I was under the impression that Helio was piggybacking on Sprint or Verizon's carrier so the coverage was actually pretty decent... as always i could be mistaken as i'm not a helio user but I agree it really depends on what kind of converage you're looking for and then you can look for the phone...

Mogul is great but since it's CDMA, i'm pretty much dead when I travel internationally unless I go to S. Korea which I believe has CDMA coverage (pretty much b/c S. Korea has any coverage known to man)... whereas if you go with a GSM.. you're good to go pretty much anywhere in europe/asia/Americas...
