The Simpsons staff loves to have a riot in Springfield! This common occurance has been referenced by Mayor Quimby in "Mayored to the Mob". Here are some of them and why they happened.
"Lisa on Ice" - When Bart and Lisa are about to face off in an intense hockey game, they remember the fun times they had, make up, and call a draw. The spectators were outrages and tore the stadium apart.
"They Saves Lisa's Brain" - TWICE!!! First when Rainer Wolfcastle announces he's the winner of the pudding contest for "being seen with you freaks" and later when the townspeople try to attack the Mensa members for the new intellectual laws.
"The Cartridge Family" - A soccer riot starts out of sheer boredom, followed by a town-wide spread led by Groundskeeper Willie.
"Lisa the Skeptic" - The religious group (Flanders, Lovejoy, Agnes, etc.) tears down every scientific institution in town when Lisa proclaims in a TV interview that religion is like believing in unicorns and leprechauns (which are extinct).
"Mayored to the Mob" - At Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con", the attendees fight over who will act out a scene with Mark Hamill.
"The Bart of War" - The stadium atendees are angered when the Pre-Teen Braves (disguised as the Cavalry Kids) sing their own version of The Star-Spangled Banner and the fight begins when the real Calavry Kids show up.
"The Otto Show" - Snake starts a riot at a Spinal Tap concert.
"Marge vs. S.S.C.C.T.G" - A baby riot sparks when rain cancels a Roofi concert.
"Rosebud" - Everyone tries to take back Mr. Burns' teddy bear from Maggie after he cuts off the town's TV and beer supply until its returned to him. The town then feels guilty and gives it back to Maggie.
And the biggest one of all in the movie!
