Friday Night Lights
Coach Carter
Gridiron Gang etc

and about true life guys making good

The Rookie
Invincible etc


Why is there no equivalent in UK - not just the films - it seems to be a different psyche
 
Maybe part of it has to do with sports like baseball being a good dose of Americana, something which we don't seem to have.

Having said that, you could easily swap baseball for cricket (for example) in The Rookie.
 
The UK does have a different psyche, but that may be down to the specific writer or individual protrayed. Brits seem to love rom-coms or lovable looser coming good.
