I'm curious to see what other people think so that's why I'm posting this; I don't necessarily think that they shouldn't be making what they do, but I don't necessarily think they should. I'm neutral. Here's the question:

Do you think that sports figures deserve to make the amounts of money that they do? If you could also explain why you think they should or shouldn't, I would really appreciate it :)

dont let it bother you they're on a totally different planet to us unless your one yourself ask yourself this why do bank officials get paid 500k per annum and a million for resigning!!!!!!!

ideally no, but considering how much money professional sports genereates, it would be over the top exploitation by the franchise owners of the players if they were to be paid normal wages. So it is just.

not in this economic crisis i think each player that is making over 50mill. a year shold give at least a million to the gov. or donate to a foundation.

Then you would also have to put these Athletes in the same boat as ACTORS, who make millions of dollars + Kickbacks for 1 film.

Athletes train hard year round, are more prone to serious injuries, and are the cream of the crop in their sports. Its a payoff for hard work and years and years of dedication.

Now compare that to someone like "Angelina Jolie" who makes millions just for 1 film, and royalties she gets after. Does she have to put in as much work as these athletes do 365 days a year to be at her peak performance?

I say, if ANY INDUSTRY can afford to pay it employees what it does, and still sustain a business, then let them.

I'm glad someone posted this.

I don't think they should be making the amounts of money they do, because when there's people busting their asses in the fields for 5 dollars an hour, LeBron james is making 10,000,000 a year! I mean that's just crazy

Personally, no sports player should be making as much as they do. None of their salaries should exceed $500,000/yr because truth be told, most aren't very educated and you have doctors, lawyers, architects, etc. working their asses off and not making close to what a sports figure, like Jeremy Shockey for Chrissake, is making.

No they shouldn't. But it's a form of entertainment and entertainers like a Will Smith or a Jim Carey get paid around the same or more than the biggest stars in the NBA (20+mill per movie) for about three to four months (if that) of work.

NBA players are more likely going to be injured than Nicole Kidman (17 million) will in any movie she is doing in two months of work.

Obviously it would be great if athletes donated 1 million (from those that make 6 mill a year and up)... at the least from their salary in EVERY professional sport you'd see some amazing changes... put it towards education, teacher salary, business building projects, policing, after school programs, day care, scholarships and so on... it would be great.

Basically it's unfair that people in sports entertainment or entertainment in general are valued more than a teacher who really loves their job, but can't live off of the wages, a police officer who puts his life on the line everyday, or a soldier who goes into combat with improper armor and when they get home improper help getting their lives back together.

But thats the way it is... supply entertainment for the demand of escapism and sports affiliation and pride.

Well, we do have police men, firefighters, etc. working and risking their lives to save people and don't get paid anywhere as much as these sports figures do. But if I had the opportunity to either be a professional basketball player or a police officer, I'd pick professional athlete any day.

Well they r just playing a sport and they r getting millions of dollars.... other people do way more important things and dont get as nearly as much which isnt fair... But then again its their job but.. yeah...
