Spondo grade change after surgery

Hi everyone!

I'm almost a year and a half post L5- S1 fusion and my spondo has moved from a grade 1 to a grade 3 (meaning the disc has slipped even more). I didn't think this was possible since the roRAB are supposed to stabilize everything no? I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what did you do? I had the roRAB, screws and a disc put in and it doesn't seem to be benefitting me at all.

My surgeon does't think i fused very well which is frustrating since I'm a very healthy petite 22 year old and I was supposed to have the best odRAB. I also have scar tissue strangling the nerve root which is causing alot of pain. Sometimes I wish I had never had the surgery since it failed miserably. I have had 2 surgeons agree to look at me for a second and third opinion and I have been told to be prepared for a second surgery which I will be devestated at doing.

Just wondering what other spiney's thoughts are!

Oh no! I have spondy, but have not had surgery...yet. I am meeting with an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday. Has your pain increased? I am miserable with pain. I do not know which grade of spondy I have yet. I just had my MRI on friday and wont get results until wed, but my x-ray showed that I do have a pars fracture. Please keep me posted because I am considering surgery, given the amount of pain I am in. I am also young (27), healthy, and slender.
 
You are right that it doesn't make to much sense - was the spondylolysthesis at the L5-S1 level? Did you have a full discectomy and fusion?

My first back surgery (L5-S1 fusion) was done without the hardware so I did have a slippage later on. Thus I later on I had L4-S1 fusion with hardware.
 
it was an L5-S1 fusion.. and i had an artificial disk put in as well at the hardware (i only found out about the disk this week my surgeon had never told me and it was done in may 2007!) I'm pretty sure from the doctors I have talked to that I'm looking at a 2nd more extensive surgery in the near future.. A HUGE dissapointment for me.
 
Seems like the artificial disc wasn't the best option - becuase it never would have fixed the inherent instability in the spine that is caused from spondyloylysthesis. For just a bad disc teh artificial disc does well - but for spondy the solid fusion seems to be a better choice (makes everything more stable).
