So in the end hes left hanging who hear thinks we would have seen like a mini clip of him getting locked up in arkham asylum during the parts were gordans doing the voiceover.

maybe now nolan will plan to use it at the begining of bat3.

because how he went out of dark knight was kinda like leave him hanging its alright the fans well see him back in 3 but unforunatly heaths passing has prevented the character back on screen
 
I think that the ending remained unchanged. He was literally left hanging there because it would seem that he was to play some role in TDK. Probably not as the main villain again, but likely an important part. If The Joker was not going to be seen again I think they'd have given us a more conclusive ending to his character.
 
I don't think it would be different. Beside i think it is better to leave it that way. If Ledger wasn't dead, he could reprise the role. But, knowing that he could never play the role again, i'd say Joker's part is done with him being hanged upside down in the end.
 
They could get another actor in it - we never see his face. Ok no one will do it as Ledger did it but they could get in another actor to do the Joker.
