My co-worker is selling his Hero for $100 and so I am going to come over to cricket with that for now and skip the Zio until it is at least rooted. Also not a bad deal considering i'm saving almost $200 that id have spent on the Zio. Although there is a really nice working data solution for android phones on cricket, I'm kind of hoping the "android" plan will allow unrestricted internet to any phone on that plan.
 
List the Hero as the M6000, add the $55 Android plan, do all the EPST/PST setting, skip all the u2nl, autostart stuff and if you have the 3g icon you should be good to go. I've done 5 so far since the 4th and they all work fully. Hit me up if you run into problems with the MMS or 3g I had to do a APN backup and restore on one of them and a full NV dump on another.

Also split to the PDA sub forum to prevent future hijacks of the other thread.
 
Oh awesome. Thanks for picking this out and giving me the low down. I will try my hand at this and get with you if I run into any problems.
 
Correct, if you got the Droid you can do the basic's, MDN, PRL, NV's, EVDO setting and presto you got WAP, MMS, Market, everything. No need to push u2nl, autostart or any of that. Although for MMS you may need to set the APN's.

That's awesome. I was wondering how they were gonna handle the proxy issue on the Zio.
Now I'm wondering if its worth the switch to the $55 plan since MMS seems to be hit or miss on the Droid. I think it might have something to do with the switching between wifi and 3g. Maybe a direct connection may help. Maybe we can use some of the APN settings from the Zio.
 
Ok I had someone switch me to the $55 Zio plan/M6000 and I deleted autostart.sh, u2nl and uninstalled autostart. After a reboot 3g worked :) Speed was slow at first but it seems to have gone back to the normal html speeds I was having before, but a little more consistent it seems. MMS works both ways too. How consistent MMS will be don't know yet, but I hardly ever use it anyway. Thanks for the findings whitey10tc and Dex.. I just read the thread at cdmagurus.
 
I can also confirm that this works. I actually just reinstalled a rom to get rid of all the autostart stuff and u2nl. kept the apn settings the same, and my mms is great now. i did few speed tests and it looks like it increased significantly. w/o the android plan i was getting around 600kbps, now it is usually between 700 and 800. My highest dl was 956.

I would say it is def. worth the extra $10, especially because my mms barely worked before i did it.

The plan really is not device specific. I've put Blackberrys Androids Windows mobile and even EnV Touches on the Android plans all with success.
 
I switched to the zio plan today and lost all data...I know its a settings issue but Ive checked them and all seem ok. I had 3G data working on my Dinc before I changed just no apps or GPS...still haven' been able to get mms to work... so I'm back to talk and text only on a $55.00 plan...lol
