I Went to the doctor and they done an ultrasound and they told me my spleen and liver were over sized but they did not tell me why and i really want to know what causes it to be that way.

I don't have the answer your looking for but i am curious too.
If you have a follow up appointment with your doctor, this would be important to ask. Has there been pain in your upper rib area?
I had just seen a program speaking of the spleen. From my understanding antioxidants are needed for the spleen. Dark chocolate was suggested along with potatoes with the skin to eat as a supplement for the spleen.
Hope you post back or maybe someone here may have your questions answered, although i would definately ask doctor why they are oversized.
If you are taking medications , could this have contributed to being enlarged?

what actually even prompted your doc to even send you for that ulktrasound to begin with? like are you ahving any pain or other symptoms that you could just mention here,it really helps us to just have as much real solid info as possible to best help you?
did your doc actually do ANY lab work on you before he sent you for the US or even after just to check all liver and spleen indicator functions? if not THAT most definitely NEEDS to be done now just to see if the liver is actually functiuoning normally in EVERY single way it is supposed to be? and other labs can also indicate just what is possibly making the spleen enlarged too. there just ARE many possible reasons for both the liver and that spleen to evenb ecome enlarged at all that unfortunetly all kind of have to be tested for with things being ruled in or out along the way? but depending upon just exadctly what 'other findings" showed upon that US you had done,may indicate a much clearer reason for this to even be?
there just were other things they DID check for other than only noting that enlargement if this was indeed a full regular abdominal US you had done? they check like the bile ducts for blockage, bloodflow thru the liver as well, esp the very important portal vein that if THIS particular vein gets blocked in some way very much can create a 'back up' of what is just blood into the liver itself and that spleen too? its just what can happen when the P vein is blocked or scrred over by certain processes? this did occur with our son. he too had a very enlarged liver and spleen? but this would be a more rare reason than other possibles here.
the best thing that your doc can do here and depending upon what other possible findings actually were also in the radiology report from that US, is to do blood work to at least see what certain labs are like and any possible changes in them that would help narrow down the real underlying reason(s) for your enlargement. also make certain to ALWAYS obtain your very own copies of any and all testing that just gets done on you, including the radiology report generated from that US and definitely all bloodwork lab sheets too(VERY important for comparrison purposes)? you just need to keep on obtaining all of your own testing results, esp any scans that may be done too? then just keep all your stuff in a file at home so YOU simply have this for YOU to read thru yourself too since not everything will always even get told to us, the actual patients here by every doc, esp the specialists? they just do this type of crap and it IS very wrong, so always obtain your own copies.
