Hi everyone,
I just wanted to know if I can some positive feedback. My derm started me on 100mg of spiro and I'm also on Ortho tri cyclen. I have been on BC for two months and spiro for three weeks. I know it can take 1 to 4 months to see results but what should I do to treat my acne in the meantime. I do not want to overdry my skin and cause cycstic acne. I cleanse with Purpose morning and spot treat with bp. At night I cleanse again with Purpose and apply
retin a micro at night (I only leave it on for a half hour). My skin is peeling and I'm afraid to use moisturizer. Those of you with positive results on spiro,
what is your skin routine. Also, do you have to wacth carefully what you eat.
I eat healthy food but I like to treat myself once in a while.
I appreciate any positive feedback!!!Thank you!!!

antibiotics can effect how well bc pills work for birth control. you need to check with your doctor for that. antibiotics will work with your bc pill as far as eliminating acne goes.

I'd ask for an oral antibiotic such as Minocycline or Doxycycline. This will get you through the waiting period before Spiro kicks in. You could also ask for a topical antibiotic such as Clindamycin.

I have been on spiro for a month. I am also on yasmin. I noticed a change in my face right away it seemed to get better. But I have PCOS (hormone problem) that may be why it worked so quickly. As for skin regimen, I wash with Cetaphil b/c it is gental and non drying, and then I put purpose moisturizer on the dry patches. And at night I use Retin A, like you. I hope works for you, it has for me. Good luck!!!

I was so close to getting spiro. The day of my appointment a lady called and said my doctor was ill and had to cancel all her appointments. She won't be back until septeraber. What makes it worse is that I was taken off my parents insurance because I turned 19 so now I don't know what to do. I have Yasmin and Retin-a but I really wanted to be on Spiro.

I just wanted to know if you or anyone taking spiro gets theirs from online pharmacys. For a 90 day supply I found that its around $41 at one online pharmacy.

So tiggerbuddy, you're saying that you should take antibiotics as well??? And it won't interfere. How long does spiro take to kick in?

Is there an endocrinologist or another derm that you could see? It seems weird that your derm won't be available until septeraberif she's just "ill".

I presume you're in america kesae but spiro is a very cheap medication, imo one of the reasons why doctors don't tend to prescribe it. Its easily very affordable without the insurance, don't worry!!!!

I ws taking Minocycline when I started taking Spiro. After about a month or two though, I stopped the Mino because it seemed as though the Spiro was working well. My doctor did not mention any problems with taking an antibiotic + spiro together, and I've read other stories of women taking both together. Spiro can often take 3-6 months to really work. IMO, an antibiotic is the perfect thing to take in the meantime to get you through this waiting period. If you don't like the idea of taking an oral antibiotic, you could also try a topical one like clindamycin. starting something like retin-a right now is also something to consider (it's got great skin benefits!), but with this there will most likely be an initial breakout. good luck!
