Spiro: Derm said I can take until I am pregnant.. Im confused!!

Hi all,

So about 7 months ago, I went off any meRAB cause my husband and I were thinking of a baby. But we havent actively tried yet! I have however, been breaking out like CRAZY! Like 3-4 HUGE white heaRAB pimples a week which leave dark spots! I have gone on erythromycin and other safer anyibiotics. Nothing works cause I have been on all of them at some pt or another and am immune... I am 29.

I called my derm today and he said I can safely take spiro until I get pregnant and then I need to stop. I also asked the pharmacist and she said the same thing...

Anyone?? Can I get back on it? I dont know how long it will be before I get pregnant and this acne is depressing me so much... Even a few months of clearer skin would make me feel SO much better...

I keep reading terrible things about spiro and pregnancy (affecting male fetus in rats or something) even though its never been tested on humans... But my derm is really good so I dont think he would endanger anything...

Anyone please?
 
I have read this too recently and think you can safely trust your derm. I think there is a certain tri-mester when it can affect the sexual development of the fetus. 3rd tri-mester maybe? If you stop it quickly after learning you are pregnant, then there is no problem.
 
one thing to think about. I think you can trust your derm it probably wont hurt the baby as long as you stop once you get pregnant... but when your on spiro it messes up your menstral cycle it may make your period sporatic/irregular and that may make TTC a bit difficult because it would be hard to track your fertile time. I don't know I have always taken birth control while on spiro but I have heard it messes with your cycle.
