...delivered? I saw a poster say: "As I was taught in speech and Debate class only the message is important. So those who get the message are worth my time." This was in response to someone poking fun of his gramatical errors.

For the most part, I disagree with this. If one cannot clearly deliver the message, how can someone receive it?

**I do admit that people can be petty when the errors are very minor.

What are your thoughts?
 
In logical construction, only the argument matters. In a Debate however, rhetoricians and linguists always succeed. There is a reason for this. It's just as important to have a coherent point as it is to have a logical one. Depending on the audience, sometimes it's even more important.
 
i think both are important. a key message delivered in a poor and confusing manner will become a lost opportunity. similarly, a poor argument is still a poor argument even if delivered by very articulate and persuasive speakers - though, i think it is easier for the second to succeed. i think there's a lot of people who are so impressed by a speech delivered with charm and authority that they will be distracted from the quality and validity of the content.
 
If you cannot get your point across you will not win the debate.

If you have grammatical errors you look uneducated or ignorant and it is hard to take serious an unschooled or ignorant person.

Unless you can earn the other person's respect in a short period of time you will never sway their opinion. Why would I trust a person that I do not respec, I meen, they have to have some street cred at the lease.
