Spine surgeons...

Hi all

I am in the UK and was wondering if anyone could recommend some good quality spine surgeons - either orthopaedic or neurosurgeons in the UK as I am not happy with the current ones I have seen at the Oswestry Orthopaedic and feel there are more experienced ones when it comes to dealing with the problem I have got as these ones did not even offer me help - just discharged me back to my GP!

Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated.

You have not said what your spine problems are ?
Here in the uk they are great believer's in leaving people with certain problems on the shelf unless you are in imminent danger or soon will be.
(e.g could end up paralised etc.)
you will be sent back to your gp for pain management.
It does not matter who you find-the criteria is the same all over the uk

I have lurabar spine degeneration since I was 17 (now 21) suspected to be grade 3 and schmorls nodes as quoted by consultant radiologists.

I get severe back pain flare-ups where it has me on the floor and I cannot get up so I have to have someone pick me up as I could not walk or straighten up.

I also have leg involvement - hot/cold sensations like water running down my legs, weakness, pain, nurabness and tingling.

All of these are intermittent and are not there all the time but happen frequently.

I also have urinary retention of which is suspected to be related to my spinal problems as it came on since then.

I had saddle nurabness and nurabness in my pubic bone area before I started getting urinary retention so it seems reasonable to suspect it is related to my spine.

My GP has not bothered about my problems and so have offered me nothing...I am reluctant anyway to be living on painkillers as it is not healthy and can damage your internal organs and also only covers up what is already there. It does not solve the problem.

The spine surgeons did not suggest to my GP anything anyway except for the fact there is nothing they can do (do not really believe that myself) so they only referred me back because it was convenient for them and got rid of me off their waiting list.

Perhaps I should go to another country and see some there to see if I can get the right care as personally I do not feel I have been getting the right care over here...
