Spill.com animated movie reviews

(Just a note before any kid goes and visits the site: The animated reviews can be pretty risque and full of bleeped-out foul language, while the audio podcasts are downright R-rated and full of vulgarity and whatnot, so if you don't think you're the right age for these, don't watch/listen to them.)

I've seen some posts in talkbacks for various animated movies (Astro Boy and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs spring to mind) that link to these guys' reviews, and I was wondering if anybody else loved them.

The gist of it is that there are five guys: Korey, Carlyle, Cyrus, Leon, and the Co-Host 3000. They sit down and record audio podcasts for recently released movies. Select podcasts are taken and edited into Flash animations of the guys sitting around and reviewing the movie, with humorous visuals added to go along with whatever they're talking about. At the end, they typically each give the movie a rating on their own original scale (From best to worst):

-Better than sex
-Full price
-Matinee
-Rental
-Some ol' bull****
-F*** you

I personally follow the audio podcasts more, since it seems only about 1/3 on average of them get animated, and there are also 3 weekly podcasts that can go on for hours: A Couple of Cold Ones, where Korey and Carlyle get together to discuss the Top 5 at the box office and the entertainment industry, Let's Do This, where Korey and Co-Host talk about whatever they want and read some listener emails, and The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen, where Leon, Cyrus and some other people talk about comic books and geek culture.

I don't necessarily agree with them on every review, but these guys have great comic timing and talent and a lot of knowledge and insight about films and the industry, and are always entertaining to listen to. Any other fans on TZ?

As a bonus, here's Carlyle discussing why The Lion King is capitalist propaganda. He also says Happy Feet is anti-religion and The Ant Bully is pro-communism. The guy's funny, but he's also a bit insane.

Oh yes, these guys are hilarious, but the best thing is that they're all normal guys. This isn't a quartet of expert critics breaking down every nuance of a film, these are guys who'll tell you if a movie rocks or sucks in everyday, funny language.

I agree with RSNaco.

They do come off as a bunch of normal guys, and that somehow makes it a bit easier to trust. Though definitely with more humor, it reminds me of the type of reply I would get from a friend: "Yeah, the special effects and CGI rocked, but the plot just sucked". The reviewers get to the point, too, which might be do to the ratings each give at the end (I also like the system because it's more clear than a star method, personally) They often make points that it may not be entertaining for adults and teens, but is good for younger kids or makes a great family movie. Of course, I don't always agree with their reviews, but there hasn't been a movie that I thought was totally terrible that they've given a shining review to. And animation's a plus.

Yeah i love listening to those guy's reviews, i prefer the audio only reviews cause they are longer, but the animated reviews tend to have some funny imagery so i watch them too. Their reviews are funny and to the point, and they seem normal, i guess i feel i trust them more cause they don't feel like those fancy professional critics. Whether i have any interest in seeing any of the movies they review or not, it don't matter, il listen to it all because i love laughing along with these guys. I don't always agree with them, but most of the time i do, and they are very good at explaining their reasonings (which i like), other critics just say stuff and don't bother to explain.

Well, i know The Dark Knight got that rating.

I love these guys too, but the best part of the site is not the movie reviews (which are great) but their three weekly pod casts: A couple of cold ones, Let do this (be warned this one tends to be long) and the comic book oriented League of extremely ordinary gentlemen. those three pod cast bring me to tears every time I listen. Oh and the co-host 3000 rocks.

I forget about this site every now and then. When I remember, I get to enjoy about a good hour of hilarious reviews.

I can't find it at the moment, but hands down the funniest review on the site is not animated. It's the Co-Host 3000's audio review of "The Dark Knight", which takes hyperbolic criticism to a whole new level. "It's better than better, Korey!"
