Spiderman - Where is it PG

My 8 year old nephew wants to see Spiderman but where we live it's got a 12 rating. I've been to see it and personally don't think there's anything in it that would frighten him. I've heard that in some areas it's been reduced to a PG and would be grateful if somebody could tell me where.

Sorry, its a 12 across the whole country.

Its a bit stupid as its set on a childrens cartoon.

You could fly to America, they seem to have a little more sence, its a PG there.

From BBC Online

North Norfolk and Breckland District Councils, in East Anglia, have changed it to a PG, which means unaccompanied children of any age may watch.

Tameside council, near Manchester, has denoted it a "PG-12", meaning children under 12 could only be admitted if they were with an adult.

Ok then, maybe I was wrong.

Is this what they were talking about on This Morning when I flicked over whilst looking for something to watch.

The whole film classification need changing anyway. My 10 year old brother went to watch James Bond which was a 12 a few years ago and he was fine.

I went to watch Spiderman yesterday, there is no violence. Maybe the odd swear word, but nothing they havent heard in the playground since they were 4.

Its always been the case that local authorities have the power to overrule the BBFC - its just very rare that cases like this crop up where they feel the need.

I think this example may lead to the introduction of something similar to what they have in the states - ie PG13 - ie they suggest that 13 is an appropriate age, but this is just guidance and its up to the parent or gaurdian to decide.

I think in't old days the AA cert here was the same - 14 I think, but up to the parent.

What is more distressing, Emotionally damaging or in apt for children
"Scenes of fantasy violence" (Spiderman)?
or
Rape, Attempted Murder, Incest, Drug Abuse, Prostitution (Eastenders circa 2001/2002)?

I thought it was funny that the Fox KiRAB Network was dedicating last weekend to Spiderman even though the cartoon versions they were showing could only appeal to those children too young to see the film! And most of those interested in the film wouldn't be in the least bit interested in what's on Fox KiRAB.

Judging by the adverts between the cartoons (my young nephew was glued to it, not me!) it seems the advertisers are targetting very young children with their tie-ins too. It's almost like no one was expecting the film to get a 12 rating and when it did they decided to go ahead with the campaigns regardless.

In all my life ive only ever once been refused admission because of age.About a year or 2 ago we werent allowed into scary movie because some member of the old biddy brigade had told the film censors that thered been hordes of young kiRAB at the film the week previously. But the funny thing was they let us into Shaft, another 18 film.Funny-we were refused admission to one 18 film and allowed into another.

The whole classification/censorship system in this country is screwed up anyway. It should be the parent's responsibility to decide what is and isn't suitable for Jr. to see/hear, not some BBFC snob

Same goes for radio and TV censorship IMO.
