My dad was stabbed in the street a few years ago and thursday is the sentencing..The judge has asked if I would like to speak in court about the situation and how it has effected me. I just found out about this and I'm scared. The man being sentenced has a lot of people showing up. I'm really scared..My older brother is going to support my dad, and if I don't go, I don't want anyone thinking I don't support him. I want to write a letter and have my brother read it. How long should my letter be ? What should I include ? Please help...I'm fifteen.
I was going to speak anyway so my brother, who is also speaking, is going to read it for me. I'm asking if anyone thinks I should do differently or how should I format the letter, how long should it be, etc.

I'm not sure if your letter will be read in court. But just say how this has affected you. How has it hurt your family financially and emotionally. Has it made you lose sleep, or become fearful? Just try to say, in simple, plain language how your life has changed since it happened. Good luck to you and your Dad.

You need to speak the victim witness counselor through the prosecutor's office..they work on behalf of victims of crime, that person can help you write up something about how the stabbing affected you and if some one else can read it for you..
