Speaker level input question?

I have a headunit with one pair of rca jacks. I have a 4 channel amp, i can power either the fwo rear speakers or the two front speakers, not both because i only have one pair. I read somewhere that i could use speaker level inputs what are these and how do they work? thanks
 
there is a great chance there is a switch that allows you to run both sides of the amp with only one pair, look at the manual or on the amp it should say front rear and front and rear.

otherwise u can use a y splitter
or add a crossover or preamp of some sort.
