Sparta

IM me at AsOceanaSleeps if you want Porcelain or Wiretap Scars.

Clarification: Sparta are really more post-rock/hardcore than emo or hardcore. Ethan just didn't want to get flamed by metal dudes who worship DT.

hmh. thats the first time ive heard sparta. theyre not bad. not quite my thing. the songs they have up arent all that exciting. i do like the vocals though. cut your ribbon was probably the best song they had up there, if you ask me.

love Sparta, i prefer them to Mars Volta and always have, but i still prefer ATDI to both of them. and i think it sucks how Sparta always get under rated and seem to be viewed as second best sometimes to Mars Volta, thats if people even start listening to them in the first place.

I've been playing it for about a week, and it's growing on me. The first track is fantastic, it's more of a grower than the last cd, which was really accessible straight away. Great band live as well.

I agree with PerFeCTioNThrUSiLeNCe.(hard name to put in without looking at keyboard

They did have pretty good vocals, they also had pretty good music none the less

At the Drive-In were awesome. Relationship of Command is probably the most listened to record I own.

I really like the Mars Volta album, it's a cd where they've clearly tried to do something new and fresh, whereas Sparta is a more obvious progression from the ATDI sound, however last year both banRAB played the Reading Festival, and Sparta were off the hook, and Mars Volta were woeful, just playing fifteen minutes of self-serving jazz before playing three or four bars of one of their songs. It was a real pity that.

For anyone who loved At the Drive-In I'd recommend a British band called Hundred Reasons. Sparta have supported them over here before, and that was an incredible show. Jim Ward is king.

Sparta's amazing.
The first time I listened to them I didn't think much of them. Then I saw them live and it was a done deal. I'm a fan for life.
As for comparing them to Mars Volta. . .
I think I like Mars Volta and Sparta equally. But I definitely like ATDI more than Sparta.
Omar Rodriguez - Lopez is an amazing musician. I like him more as a meraber of ATDI than Mars Volta. And the lyrics are amazing. I swear this guy is on crack or something when he comes up with some of this stuff.

Peace

Wiretap Scars was is one of my favorite albums to just relax to, but I was kind of disappointed when i bought it and all the songs sounded worse than the leaked version I had on my computer. Porcelin at first listen was horrible. Then my friend started playing it in his car and I realised I kind of liked it, and now I enjoy it, just not as much as wiretap scars, mostly because I don't like the way the vocals sound so overproduced.

I've never been to crazy for Sparta, just never really caught my interest too much, I heard them a couple of years ago when my friend wouldn't shut up about them and then I wanted to smack him because they just aren't that great imo. Mars Volta on the other hand is amazing.
