So far I have been unable to get the Spanish Closed Captions on any BEV channel. I know for a fact that some prime time shows on ABC broadcast Sapanish Closed Captions as I can get them OTA even in the HD versions from Buffallo and even at the beggining of the show they announce it. I have tried changing services on the CC submenu to up to number 4 with no avail. I have tried using a different output other than HDMI (Component and A/V) and nada. I know the BEV East feeds are from Boston so maybe the Boston affifliates do not broadcast the SP CC which I doubt.

Does anyone has an explanation why it does not work?

This is what the Boston ABC Affiliate (WCVB) says on their website.

Spanish Subtitles On WCVB
How To Control On Your Set

Spanish Subtitling (CC2)

We at WCVB offer Spanish subtitling as a service to our viewers during our newscasts. It is sent on our signal in the same way as English closed captioning and its selection is a function on your TV set: English on CC1 (closed caption 1) and Spanish on CC2 (closed caption 2).

WCVB cannot turn this on or off or select which captioning to display. It can only be done by you, the viewer.

On some sets, the solution is a single button on your remote control (i.e. "CC" or "CC1/CC2"). On others, the function may be accessed through menus. To determine the correct way to select or deselect CC2 for your TV set, please refer to your set's operating manual.

Spanish Audio (SAP)

ABC simulcasts in Spanish some of their shows on the "Secondary Audio Program" (SAP) as a service to their Spanish speaking viewers.

Selection of the SAP audio, however, is a function of your TV set.

WCVB cannot turn this on or off on your set.

This can only be done by you, the viewer. In most cases this selection can be made with a single button on your remote control (i.e. "SAP" or "MTS").

In a few cases, you may have to get into the menu in order to deselect the SAP audio.

To determine the correct way for your TV set, please refer to its operating manual.

Well , then I wonder what is happening that it does not work. I wonder if BEV is "removing" that Spanish closed captioning service or if due to the nature of their receiving-processing-broadcasting equipment then the SP CC2 is lost somewhere?.

I know for a fact that on the secondary TV output (TV2) you will not even get the english CC1 but at least on the main TV (TV1) it should work.

I will send an email to the ABC Boston Affiliate now. I wonder if Rogers customers are having the same issue though? Could someone check please? Usually prime time shows on ABC have the spanish closed captioning service.

Finally!!!!!!!!. Well..... I found a very simple solution to solve the problem. After trying several posibilities I decided to use the CC decoder on my TV's and it works!!!. The only catch is that if you have your TV connected via HDMI to your receiver then (at least in my 71 series Samsung) you will not be able to activate the closed caption using your TV menu. Solution , use Component or A/V inputs then. Even on the TV2 output you will still be able to get the Spanish Closed Captions on any channel that broadcast it . It even works on the HD version of the US networks. Most programming is on ABC on prime time. But I guess is a good alternative to having only 1 Spanish Channel plus a few hours on TLN. Last year when my mother came to visit me for 3 months she used to watch OTA ABC shows thanks to the spanish closed captions.

By the way , the 9242 user manual does not mention any of this (and even recommend to only use the receiver CC menu to activate it) and the Service 2 option on the CC menu does not work either. Hopefully BEV engineers will fix this someday or ... should I work for BEV to get it done???? lol lol lol lol. How I wish !!!!! lol lol lol lol
