Southland More4

I think that the pixellation is a good idea. I wish they would pixelate more crime dramas, such as Silent Witness.

I like crime stories but do not want to see images of "torture porn" or "slasher porn".

The horror of the murder of the woman and her children was shown by the script and the actors - we did not need to see fake blood combined with real naked flesh in order to be moved.

Since we are all familiar with news and documentaries showing images with pixellation it could be thought to add to the authenticity if they do the same in drama.

Definitely going to give this a chance, More4 seem to get some great dramas, and with The Good Wife just finished, this could be the job. :)

What an emotionally charged episode. The scene between Det.Adams (the black female detective) and Mrs Miller, when she said, that they were going to reopen the case of her missing daughter, who had been missing since 1992,and no-body could give a damn about, brought a tear to my eye. And no detective show has ever done that to me.I must be getting old.

I didn't think i'd get into this. But it's one show i look forward to watching every week.

Its good but there is just too many characters!! I cant keep up with them all, the main 2 wernt even in last nights episode (the ep was good though) I read that the cast is thinned out in series 2 or 3 so that will be good! IMO the best ones are the 2 main guy cops, the black woman and guy who's daughter went missing in last nights episode

I think it struggled over there due to the completely retarded censorship of the show. We were lucky, we got the full unedited version (bar the one scene, which was bizarre) with violence and swearing.

I just rewatched the first four seasons of The Shield on DVD so I can't help but compare the two as I'm watching Southland.:)

It will settle down, and you should be able get to know all the characters in a few weeks.

I'm intrigued by the Det.Adams.(Quiet but fiesty). Didn't they hint that she might be gay a couple of weeks back (her relationship with the child protection officer) or did i misread that. Because last night she was having dinner with Julien (from The Shield).
I hope she is gay, because it'll make her charater and storyline even more interesting.

The thing I like about Southland is that it covers the small barely-notable moments too. Most cop shows focus entirely on a central plot. A guy gets killed, and everyone on the show is working on solving it. Southland does have the detectives doing just that, but it also strays and covers completely random things like having the beat cops catch a guy taking upskirt shots in a mall. They confiscate the camera and never mention it again.

I also like that people actually do their assigned jobs. Unlike, say, CSI where forensics people are doing interrogations, etc.. the detectives investigate, the police handle the scene and patrol, and so on.
