South Park - "You're Getting Old" - Talkback [6/8]

This episode was great, I really liked it. Seeing children see old things as crap while adults see young things as crap was pretty funny. It feels like this show gets better and better. Seeing everything go to crap like that was funny. As well as what's going on with Kyle and Stan.

I actually kind of liked it, and thought, besides the poo jokes, that it was a pretty interesting episode. I found the really fast spoken "Rated arg for pirates **** you." line during the movie trailers hilarious for just how out of nowhere it was.

I'm not sure what to think about the episode....On the one hand, the major running joke of the episode (Stan hearing and seeing everything/everyone as crap...literally) got old really fast (probably helped along by the fact that I'm not really too fond of toilet humor)...but,the last couple minutes was interesting,if a bit depressing (Stan's parents either get seperated or divorced, and Stan loses all his friends over his excessive negativity).....

I'm also wondering if this'll have any lasting impact on the show,or if things will just go back to normal with the next episode in the fall...It'd be more interesting to have things change for the characters, but I could easily see things just being reset like nothing happened....

Well here's my own opinion and just hear me out.

I remember hearing a while back that Matt and Trey had said South Park's production was becoming a nightmare for them.

Then the 200/201 fiasco happened and a lot of the show's credibility was damaged irreparably, a fact made even worse by the 14th season DVD being censored as well against their wishes.

The fact is......

Maybe Matt and Trey are just done with South Park, regardless of their contract and this is their way of saying goodbye.

You see, South Park is a show like Simpsons or Family Guy that I never really pictured having a last episode.... a genuine series finale.

But "You're Getting Old"... it really felt like what one for South Park could be.

-No Kenny Dying
-A main character moving away from South Park
-Kyle and Cartman playing together in peace
-No final joke
-Sharon basically summing up the whole of South Park towards the end

This is all just my opinion and I could be wrong, I'm just saying my piece.

Hilarious/sick/sad episode,

The highlights:
Stan's 10th Birthday.
Eric being spoiled with his presents, hahahahaha.
The L.A. Noire/Ben 10 references.
The pooping jokes from Tween Wave, hahahahaha.
Adults saying young things is crap.
Randy being a man-child like Peter Griffin/Pops, hahahahaha, another wacky Randy plot is always great:D:p.
Kids saying old things is crap.
Kyle/Eric being friends gets really interesting.
Poor Stan getting older not liking young things and being cynical, he's lost his edge.
The s-bomb unbleeped so much is so surprising, woooooow.
The Bob Dylan/The Zoo Keeper pooping jokes, hahahahaha.
Stan seeing and hearing lots of poop jokes from people/things, hahahahaha:ack::D:D.
"Steamy Ray" Randy pooping on the microphone, hahahahaha.
Poor Stan becoming a major buzzkill for Kyle/Eric/Kenny.
Steamy Nicks pooping the microphone with "Steamy Ray" Randy, hahahahaha.
Awwww, they would've showed a great Sharon/Steamy catfight.
The X-Men:First Class reference.
The Adam Sandler/Mr. Popper's Penguins/President Duck trailer pooping jokes, hahahahaha.
Kyle the giant poop, hahahahaha.
Poor Stan separated from his friends:(.
The two old guys stealing pants, hehehe.
Randy/Sharon separating, the poor Marsh Family.

I'll definetly enjoy part 2 of the midseason finale which I hope things will get back to normal with Stan/Kyle/Eric/Kenny and the Marsh Family pretty soon.
Bill Hader guest starring was great.

Yeah, considering the fact that they resigned the show last year, they're not gonna do that. Unless you hear something about Comedy Central suing the crap out of the two tomorrow... yeah, this isn't the true end.

But I think this confirmed that this puppy's done in 2013.

i think it's interesting to see the variety of emotions being taken from this episode. it suggests in a weird way it's a much more subtle episode than it lets on. that said, i enjoyed the barely disguised shot at dub step that tween wave amounted to, and the frank and unironic tone of the self-referentiality towards the end. it could be a build up towards a giant middle finger towards the fans by playing it sincere only to yet again sucker punch them with a cheap reset, or it could be a stark break towards a surprisingly sharp wind down and finale. perhaps quite critically, this injects an element of surprise into a once stale show. this could be the most interesting development in years for south park.

Quite a downer of an ending, but at least it was different. It was on its way to being another unwatchable Season 15 episode until it started getting disturbingly meta.

This is again what makes South Park different from almost every other show on TV. It's been the perspective of just two guys from the beginning. There's a personal feeling to it that no other show has. When Matt and Trey speak, they speak directly to you, not through a staff of twenty writers and editors. You feel like you know them.

And this was a talk with them I didn't like having, but I knew was true.

Again, people are going on about it being renewed for 2 more seasons, Comedy Central haven't officially announced this, so please treat it as just a rumour. Otherwise, there's a slight chance of disappointment.

This seems to be another "wrapping stuff up" episode. (Haven't seen it yet, since it airs on Friday here.)

If there was one word I can use to summarise this episode-that's not "crap"-it'd be satisfying. It's satisfying as a cliffhanger, and it's satisfying as a finale. The montage reminded me of Ghost World-The comic, not the movie-I didn't like the ending to the comic as a kid, but as an adult I can say that I would be fine with the ending if I ever take the time to read it again. It was a good journey. Same thing here.

After watching this episode I thought about this whole half-season and the whole 200/201 thing I got the feeling that Matt and Trey are tried, it's just not fun anymore; you just can't straight up make fun of anything anymore like you used too without someone trying to either sue you or threaten you out right. We live in cynical times the hope and idealism of our youth is fading and if you try and hold on to it (not like Randy though) most people will usually tell you "why bother" I hope this isn't the end for south park but after this episode I can understand if they want to end it and move on to other projects.

Wow. Besides being pretty gross. It was still pretty funny. For what it's worth, I really enjoy the satire in this show. The ending was really nice, as I enjoy the commentary of the show, and seeing how everything is changing around them. I hope they continue and build on this in the next half of the season.

I also heard the closing credits have total silence over them, but I didn't get to see it because in the episode's original airing, Comedy Central squeezed them to start Workaholics a few minutes early. I think the midnight encore had it though.

That was a pretty shocking ending. for whatever reason, I thought if Randy accepted he's old and everything is crap to him, Stan would somehow return to normal. Too bad it's not that easy for Stan. Even though Kyle and Cartman hate each other, at least they can enjoy some of the same things. If Stan can't do that, well...who knows where it'll take him? Nice use of "Landslide".

I actually thought the episode was really funny. Normally I'm not big on toilet humor, but they got a lot of mileage out of it. And, honestly, I don't think that Jim Carrey penguin movie seems all that funny, but the fecal version of it looks hysterical.

Even though I saw this episode on the night it aired, I had no idea how to describe my feelings. If It didn't have that ending, I would say it was pretty mediocre, but that ending said to me, "I dare you, I double dog dare you to tell me that was horrible." It's well publicized by now Matt Stone and Trey Parker hate working on South Park (at least for now) and want to move on to bigger things, and from what they've been putting out this season, they don't seem to be trying as hard. My bet is that the ending will not receive a conclusion just because the two creators believe they're trapped in some cage that prevents any plot progression.

I'm not going to rate this episode, because it's just impossible. Cheers (or poisons) for 35 more episodes of South Park shooting itself in the foot.
