South Park - "You Have Zero Friends" - Talkback [4/7]

This is the type of humor I like this show for, and why I still think it's a good show. It's cut back on the outlandish stories which besieged the early seasons (and that's pretty much what made it in the first place) and STILL manages to be funny, this episode sums up everything wrong with Facebook, Myspace, etc.

The Tron parody, though, was simply EPIC. Puts everything written by the people who've been writing Simpsons for the past nine, no, nearly TEN seasons to shame.

It amused me...I have a Facebook account, but I'm rarely there (if I am,it's just to take quizes or see photos of relatives or friends)...

I loved how Stan didn't really want to be on Facebook, but due to everyone pressuring him,he ended up on it anyway...and even afterward,he still wasn't into it(and being bothered by friends, family, and even people he's never met),and ended up trying to delete his account, leading him into being inside the computer,in a "Tron" parody world (I'm not actually familiar with Tron,I only know it through playing Kingdom Hearts 2,which has a Tron world)....
Also thought that the friendless kid who Kyle Facebook friended treating him like an actual friend was funny, especially when he took his laptop to the movies (I'm also glad that the episode ended with him getting all of Stan's friends after Kyle dumped him as a friend, rather than having the poor kid all depressed and or killing himself,as tends to be the style of humor they use on South Park)....

This episode was all kinds of awesome. Great bashing of Facebook (I don't have an account there AND AS GOD IS MY WITNESS I NEVER WILL) and use of Tron. Not that I have any interest in Tron, but it was cool what Matt and Trey did with it. I really liked the ending to this too.

"Stan am I your friend? Well you didnt add me on Facebook"

"Stan Poke Grandma!"

I loved Randy's short bit in this and glad to see Wendy with some dialogue so far.

Kip was awesome, the biggest reason being the "lonely person becoming a stalker" cliche wasn't used. I got the exact same thoughts most people did, and I'm pleasantly surprised it didn't happen.

I really liked this episode. Very funner and better than the last.

It does? All I saw was that it shows how extreme/serious some people tend to take social networking sites.

This is the exact reason that I will never join Facebook, or anything like that. At least here at rabroad's we're talking cartoons. Speaking of which, now I'm gonna think of this episode any time I'm ever involved in a friend request here at rabroad.

I don't really see anything in this episodes discouraging the use of Facebook. They're just making fun of how some people take it seriously. I mean, if all your friends use Facebook I don't see why you shouldn't. It doesn't negatively affect your life unless you allow it to.

Seems to me this episode is making fun of the people who take Facebook far to seriously, and not Facebook itself.

I haven't seen this one yet, although I do plan on checking it out because it sounds interesting. But it does seem to me that (again) an episode of South Park has quickly become a favorite because of the "OMG I hate such-and-such and South Park bashed it so therefore South Park is automatically awesome for pointing out how lame and stupid it is!!" mentality that a lot of it's fans have.

Yeah, no. That's not exactly what the show is trying to do. It makes comments on human nature, about how ridiculous people are when they take something too seriously. It's the same way with "Cartoon Wars", an episode that a lot of people don't get because they cant see past the Family Guy "bashing".

This episode was pretty good.

I liked how Stan was disappointed in not riding any digital bikes in the tron world.
Also, I laughed at how he defeated his profile in the end too.

I thought Kip was just going to sit in the end since he had no friends, but I was surprised they averted that.

I've been thinking, and maybe this doesn't really matter, but I wonder who the fans symphasized with the most, Stan (for being pressured into getting a facebook account and friending people and so on), Kyle (for losing so many friends due to him being friends with Kip), or Kip (for Kyle being hsi only friend until the end). Of course with Kip people may not have symphasized as much... I don't think he's been in any episodes before (though he does look like he could have been one of the ugly kids who appear in the episode where Kyle was at the bottom of the list of boys from cutest to least cute), and I didn't really feel sorry for him when Kyle deleted him from friends.
