South park: Where to pick up

I binge-purchased all 13 seasons of South Park today since they were on sale for $18.99. I spent the entire winter being a miser, so naturally I've decided to reward my discipline with a lack thereof to start my summer.

I had only ever seen six or seven episodes, and each made my sides hurt from laughter. As such, I'm diving right in. However, in watching season 1 (and I think you can expect this with any show), the first few episodes have lacked in quality. It seems almost as if they're establishing shock value for the sake of its then-novelty without much focus on creative story-telling or ingenious plays on morality.

Certainly, I'll go back to watch all of the episodes, but I'd rather start at a point where the show is in full gear or at least running well with characters established and entrenched. (I.E., "The Simpsons" would be season 3). Where is a good starting point?

I think the show is easiest to get into and appreciate if you start with season 3. It's the first time the show feels like it does now, the characters are beginning to come into their own, and the episodes themselves are great.

Season 1 and 2 are hard to rec to start with as they're not quite the same as usual SP, and season 4 is kind of dependent on knowing the universe at least a bit. (It's not required, but it helps) I think season 3 is the one to watch first.

Oddly enough, I recently became a "South Park" fan by way of Season 1, so it's good to know that it gets even better down the line.

Where'd you get the box sets for $19 each?

Wow, me personally after having only seen less than ten episodes I'd probably try to catch a few more reruns before shelling out about $250. Plus I don't even have that much disposable income anyway.

Yeah, there's a lot of people saying season 3. But I think it was more like around season 5 or six that it became less potty humor and more like what the show is today.
