South Park - "Mysterion Rises" - Talkback [11/3]

Good jokes throughout so far, but for some reason, the revelation of Hindsight's sidekicks (Shoulda, Coulda, and Woulda) was the of best joke in this run of the season. Or at least, it got my biggest laugh. So simple but brilliant.

Parodying Totoro was all kinds of awesome.

Kenny's immortal, and he knows about it. Crazy.

And now we know that Kyle is Kite Man. Huh.

I like how they were trying to set up Craig's secret identity like a big deal.

Well, then, another imagination land like trilogy. It seems enjoyable, I loved the Ghibli reference (thanks to those who pointed it out, I couldn't figure out exactly what it was from). I wonder how well the third, and final part will do.

How many episodes do we have after this next one coming?

What are you hearing that you are referring to?

Ah a three parter, awesome considering how great this episode was
God damn it Cartman creepped me out

Quick second in my book... the first being the reveal of Mysterion's super power.
And it ends only confirming his power yet again

Wow, I was thinking Clyde was Mysterion, Kenny was Kite Man, and Kyle was Mosquito, but it turns out it's all reversed. Though I was right in that Bradley was Berry-Crunch, but that was pretty obvious from the getgo; he was the only one in the group with blond hair.

And Cartman sells his soul to Cthulu. What a shock!

Eh, an average episode. I don't feel this should be a three parter, because parts one and two just haven't been anywhere as good as the first two Imaginationlands, in scope or humor. Still, I can't wait to see how they end Kenny's immortality story next episode.

BTW, "Mysterion" is one of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter.

I wonder what Miyazaki would think if he saw SP associating one of his movies with a creature known for causing death and madness to all? I'm hoping he doesn't take the spoofing the wrong way.

I'm pretty sure Totoro himself cameo'd in Imaginationland.

A 3-parter:eek: no wonder they held-over last weeks episode since it was meant to air in april and I missed it thanks to the 1 week BST/GMT gap:mad: why can't they leave the clocks alone? Anyway sounds like an epic trilogy here:p

This one was better then the last episode due to the fact that it focused a lot more on the episode strongest part: the boys. There were some bits with the DP (mostly in the opening and the "what should I do" part) and Captain Hindsight (mostly him being a drunk jerk who got told by Mysterion what a real power is like and trying to get rid of his powers at the end. Yeah he may fly like Superman but his origin and trying to be Captain Hindsight No more is defintley more spiderman) but they didn't really factor into the plot of the episode. Rather it was on the Coon, Mysterion, and the other Superhero boys.

I'm glad that this time around Cartman did more of his humorous Christan Bale raspy imitating voice for the Coon since that was severly missing from the last part. And though we did get a lot of good comic book page scenes throughout the ep the best ones used were Cartman's, mostly for his fight with the little girl, imagining him having to wade through the streets to fight Chtulu and the song at the end. (Nice Neverending Story spoof, the movie refrence of the week that unlike last week's I actually got to with him riding on Chtulu). I also liked Cartman's plan of trying to gain control of Chtulu just to get revengence on his friends and banish them for trying to take his group name. The bit about him rubbing the monster's stomach went on a bit too long but that was my only real gripe about Cartman's scene.

I also liked finding out about the other boys. Now we know that the Human Kite is Kyle (which actually makes more sense then Mosquito being Kyle considering that Human Kite sounds more like Kyle and Kyle wouldn't come up with a plan like a bake sale) and Mosuiqto being Clyde. Of course we still need to find out who Mint Berry Crunch is but I'm assuming that won't be really important unless we get some sort of twist (though yeah I guess it being Bradley is kind of obvious). I was hoping for the boys doing more then just having a bake sale so I did like them actually finding out about the cult and trying to stop them from taking out Mysterion. Also figures they wouldn't really be taking this as seriously as say Coon and Mysterion are (and though brief I did like the Professor Chaos cameo here. Guess he won't factor too much into this episode).

And of course this episode made good use of Mysterion who we find out is Kenny. Which yeah makes a lot of sense since he was one of the big contenders for Mysterion in "The Coon" when he first appeared. You know the whole masked angle and the fact that he was speaking in a voice you couldn't quite pin onto most of the other characters. I also like how Kenny pointed out he can't die and just wakes up on his bed whenever he does. More reasonable then say the last explanation all the way 10 years ago saying his parents bore a new Kenny whenever he dies (nice appearence of them being bullied by the Coon and admitting they just got into Chtulu parties because they liked drinking). Also liked the appearences of Adler, the pair of geeks and the goths being in the Chtulu club and the final bit of Kenny's annoyedness of his immortality. Is he trying to find a cure and actually die for good? And hey will they actually explain what is behind his immortality in the next epiosde? That would be a nice twist for the franchise.

So yeah a better episode then last week actually. Better bits and uses of the superhero boys and nice continuation of the plotline. Here's hoping that the ending is as strong as this part.
