South Park - "It's a Jersey Thing" - Talkback [10/13]

I've never watched Jersey Shores, but I liked this episode. After Cartman revealed that he poops on Kyle's front lawn, I kept hoping (but didn't expect) for Mr. Hankey to make an appearance. I also liked the reference to Teen Wolf (though it's not as effective as in the movie; in the movie, we don't know that the father is also a werewolf until that scene, while in this we already knew Kyle's mother was from Jersey). And the ending is funny as well.

I'd like to quote "No two people on earth are enemies. Only those who have differences."
 
You know unlike a lot of continuity twists Sheila being from Jersey makes a lot of sense. Espiecally that line in the movie about hating the city and moving to a small town and you know her general attidude in the earlier seasons. I kind of wished we had some more focus on that actually since Sheila hasn't had any focus in... ever. Though I guess the point of pointing out Sheila was from Jersey was to reveal Kyle had Jersey blood in him since well Kyle gets main character status more I guess. I didn't really like his transformation at the end but I think I like how Kyle was trying to defend himself from Cartman's taunts for once by threathening him (though I didn't like Carmtan's cowering I guess it's obvious if you pin him to a wall in a direct confrontation on most issues he'll quickly back down) as well as Cartman calling Kyle "his little monster". In truth the boys plot in general started off better then it ended. The best scenes were them talking in the beginning and Cartman mentioning crapping on Kyle's doorstep and then Cartman trying to convince everyone Kyle should be put in a meatfreezer. Oh and I guess Dog Poo being violated since that was what the second time he ever had any lines ever?

I think this is another example of Randy taking over an episode way too much though. The idea of Sheila being from Jersey and fighting them back after defending Sharon was better then just Randy taking the lead yet again but uh... main character status again I guess. I did like the beginning bits with the New Jersey people ranting at the camera and the first mentions of a Jersey thing but that was another line that got driven into the ground. Showing the Taliban Jersey Shore clips and Osama being shot (though wasn't Osama dead from "Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants?" Eh guess most SP characters come back from death if they're real life counterpart is still alive like Steven Speilburg and George Lucas) were good bits as well as the animation of Randy beating the Jersey guy and everyone else saying he could be that stupid but otherwise a weaker episode then last week IMHO. The Jersey shitck got old when they freaking went to war with them besides a few bits (the Ahnuld cameo was good another bit I just remembered) and I didn't like the focus on characters who already had development over those who didn't. Also this seems like another one of those episodes that needed to rush it's resolution because it was almost getting too big for it's britches. Some SP have this problem and this is one of those noteable ones. Not really a bad episode but not a good one. And weaker then the season premiere IMHO.
 
Yeah, I have a question... were there supposed to be any jokes in this episode? Because there weren't any jokes in this episode.
 
Awesome/hilarious episode,

The highlights:
I do love the whole "new people invading/causing trouble in South Park" formula.
The character interviewing parts.
Theresa being a crazy nasty wench on poor Sharon and the Marsh family was so funny, hahahaha.
Eric pooping in Kyle's front lawn was funny.
Sheila saving poor Sharon and getting rid of those crazy New Jersey jerks was awesome, go Sheila:D:D!!!!!
Sheila being from New Jersey surprised me, but her original name S-WOWW and catfight with New Jersey chick on that picture was sweet.
Kyle's transformation to a New Jersey kid along with his cool hairstyle is good Teen Wolf reference, cool that he has New Jersey blood in him.
Sheila looks weird/freaky in New Jersey form.
Ike screaming/fainting was so cute/funny.
Randy wanting assistance from Al Qaeda was great, you gotta love the whole "alliance with your enemies" chemistry.
Kyle threatening Eric along with Eric being a crybaby was great/funny.
That Snooki was the freakiest/grossest/disturbing creature ever, hehehe:eek::ack:.
Stephen's just desserts from that Snooki was awesome.
Nice to see my favorite minor characters, Dog Poo, Bill & Fosse, Jason, and Bradley(the blonde boy) making an appearance.
Eric's plan on kidnapping Kyle was funny.
Nice to see the return of Osama Bin Laden.
Randy showing the Jersey Shore video clip was great, hehehe.
The war with the citizens of South Park vs. the New Jersey people was sweet.
Poor Dog Poo getting violated by the Snooki which he had lines the second time, nice.
New Jersey Kyle saving Eric from the Snooki was funny, hehehe, but it was nice that Eric actually thanked him, wooooow.
The Al Qaeda planes dive bombing on the New Jersey people was awesome/hilarious, hahahahaha:p:D.
Osama being killed again was a great/funny ending, hahahahaha.
It was nice with Sheila being the main focus than overused Randy, but wooooow, who knew she had a wild crazy side, hahahahaha.
 
Really? What scene was he in, I didn't catch that at all (I really liked his character).

I really liked this week's ep, thought it was a lot funnier than last week's and had a better story too.

I liked the focus we got on Sheila, and the small bonding moment she had with Kyle. Loved Cartman turning into a crybaby when Kyle got in his face (typical Cartman, that gag never gets old for me), and LOVED that he actually thanked Kyle for saving him from Snookie.

Cartman calling Kyle his little monster, and pinching his cheek, I thought was cute and funny.

Osama showing up with all those planes I did find amusing (because it was total overkill, and made no sense that they didn't catch the government's attention before reaching the town).

I went to bed when right after watching the episode, did they show a trailer for next week's ep?
 
I'll help you out Mandi-chan, the scenes where Bradley was in was the scene where Eric tells Butters and the other group of boys his plan to kidnap Kyle and in the restaurant where he and the boys were about to put Kyle in the meatfreezer, hehehe:D, I'm sad he didn't got any lines next to Bill & Fosse/Jason as well.
 
I pride myself on never having watched so much as a second of "Jersey Shore", but I still know enough about the show to be certain that it's one of the dumbest things ever, so seeing Trey and Matt take aim at it is a real treat. "It's a Snooki! It's very famous!" "Why is it famous?" "I DON'T KNOW!" Randy beating the crap out of the Situation easily qualifies for his Crowning Moment of Awesome.

Also, I always enjoy seeing Kyle strike back against Cartman. Of course he bursts into tears after he gets knocked against a tree trunk. He couldn't even take a punch to the shoulder seven seasons ago.

Nice subtle reference to the Ground Zero mosque controversy, too. That was another one of those things that happened over the summer that I was certain Trey and Matt were going to lampoon once the season started again. And yeah, Al-Qaeda flying planes into the mob of New Jersey residents is really messed up, but I have to admit I laughed anyway. Like I always say, either nothing's sacred or everything is.
 
Maybe I'd actually check out a new episode one of these days if every single one didn't require you to be familiar with the subject matter they're relentlessly trashing in order to enjoy it.

NASCAR, Jersey Shore, Inception, Hoarders...why not think of an original idea?
 
South Park is a satirical show and surely you must have heard of the subject matters at one time or another and at least they don't make extremely obscure references like Family Guy sometimes does.
 
Oh I heard of all that stuff. Doesn't mean I want to sit through entire episodes parodying one thing and one thing only. When "The China Probrem" ended up being almost nothing but Indiana Jones being raped by Lucas and Spielberg because Trey and Matt didn't like Crystal Skull I knew I was pretty much done with the show.

FYI, bringing up Family Guy in SP threads (and vice versa) never ends well. But what I will say is that while I agree that Family Guy sometimes makes obscure references, they're never the focus of entire episodes. Don't like a joke in Family Guy? Ignore it, something else will come along that you may like. Don't like Kanye West getting mad at some fish sticks joke? Sorry, that's the whole show.
 
Well that 'Indy Jones' episode was awful anyway:sad: And I freakin loved the Fishstick ep. and Kayne West is a smug ego maniac autotuner so parodying him was the best thing to see on my tv :) and SP have been paroding celebs for many many years.
