South Park "Crippled Summer" Talkack (Spoilers)

Episode was amazing and funny! Both plots were great, Towelie almost stole the show, and there were some great Looney Tunes references.

I'm Guessing that to end this half season, Matt and Trey decided to brush off a few ideas they've had on the backburner. I mentioned that "Pee" was suppose to have a Jimmy surfing subplot in it, but there's another plot that has been talked about for awhile actually: Towlie Intervention.

Actually the original plot to "A Million Little Fibers" was going to be a Towlie intervention epsiode, featuring the town trying to get Towlie off of drugs. Originally that ep was going to feature the boys and not have this whole Towlie writes a book angle or be involved with Oprah's vag, but the Intervention idea was scrapped since they didn't consider it funny. Either they were able to revamp it so it would be funny, it ended up being enjoyable now or they decided to just screw it and run with it. Either way I think it works rather well. IMHO Towlie works better when he's not on his own and interacting with the boys (thus why his appearences in "Towlie" or even "Professor Chaos" were better then his appearences in his solo ep) and I liked Kyle and Stan's annoyance at Towlie's drug problems and saying how he went from an annoying character with a couple of catchphrases to a wasteoid who has to pay for his own addiction. And though Butters never interacted with Towlie he did a good job playing the real friend in need managing to break through with Towlie at the end, showing him his son and getting him to go to rehab. There were other good jokes about Towlie realizing it's Wendesay and he's still high, him trying to get off on computer dust cleaners (the only thing off about that is that they do check for ID for those due to them knowing people get high off that. I work retail and have checked people for that actually), Cartman using his time to rail on the jews, and Towelie winding up getting clean again (though supposedly he's only been clean for two days so who knows how long that will last).

The other plot was surprsiingly not really about Jimmy at all. Based on the synopsis and the sneak peak I thought this would be a Jimmy focused episode but really he's only the guy whose being targetted by the real subplot stars, Nathan and Mimzy. I always thought Nathan was creepy from "Up The Down Steriod" so it makes sense he was a villian, but unfourantley he's the Rocky for Mimzy's Mugsy. Yeah obvious a lot of the campers are stand in for Looney Tunes characters (Porky, Beaky, Elmer Fudd) but these two are given the most screentime and come up with those wacky plots that you know aren't going anywhere. I do think it helped that they were interspliced with the intervention music and explanation pointing out how deadly Mamba snakes are, how angry Retardica indians get, or saying how large the shark's ***** was. And though we didn't get much of Jimmy I did like his little bits (and Timmy having lines even if he was still in the background) and him trying to reach out to Nathan at the end, only for Nathan to still protest his hatred for him. Actually thinking about it even if this isn't 200 or 201 it did bring back some characters not seen for awhile and some you never really think they'd use again so that's something.

This is far more a humor episode then the last couple have been and I found it rather strong. It wasn't as awesomely plotted or epic as the last couple of episodes but I was chuckling throughout and never bored or annoyed with how the episode progressed. So yeah a lot better then how the season began. Actually this more then a lot of seasons has been a very positive upswing from a weak beginning.

I really want Kyle to beat the crud out of Cartman, just like Wendy did.

I've never seen the show "Intervention", so some of the parody was probably lost on me.

All in all I thought this was kind of a weird episode. I don't know if I liked it or not.

Best of the season, for the classic animation shoutouts alone.

The fact that it was actually funny and original, well, that just made it better.

Taz was on the drums.

This is how rate the episode

Towlie plot 2/5
I stopped liking Towlie after his first episode.

Looney Tunes Summer Camp spoof 4/5
I admit I can't enough of Looney Tunes and the gags were good in that always back fired.

Awesome/hilarious episode & my next favorite,

The highlights:
The viewer discretion disclaimer was great.
Nice to see my Towelie, he cracks me up, hahahaha.
The Intervention parody was funny, hehehe.
Towelie using crystal meth like Peter/Brian was funny.
Stan, Kyle, & Butters talking about Towelie & his drug addiction problems was funny/great.
Nice to see Timmy/Jimmy having a major role and it's great for Timmy to finally have some screentime for once.
All the handicapped kids are Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies/MGM characters which I saw Elmer Fudd, Beaky Buzzard, Droopy, Pete Puma, Porky Pig, Petunia Pig, Taz Tasmanian Devil, & Foghorn Leghorn, awesome:eek::D.
Cool to see my favorite returning villain Nathan which him & Mimsy parodying Lenny & George/Rocky & Muggsy was awesome, he's a great arch-rival for Jimmy.
Nice that Jimmy likes Nathan as his friend while Nathan has his hatred for him much like Eric's hatred for Kyle.
Mimsy putting the black mamba in the Red Team's canoe was funny, he's the next best idiotic henchman ever for his screw-ups, hahahahaha.
Towelie being a pathetic drug addict loser was so hilarious, hahahahaha:p:D.
Mimsy not switching the maps was great, he's such an idiot, hehehe.
Nathan getting attacked by the Tardicaca Indians was funny.
The Inhaled Towelie's facial expressions & his "walking on sunshine" lines were so funny, hehehe.
Jimmy is one amazing surfer, woooow.
The Tardicaca shark mating on Nathan after Mimsy blowing the whistle was hilarious, hahahahaha:p:D.
The Intervention meeting with Towelie & his drug addiction problems was great.
Eric being the Jewbasher in his hate speech was so funny, hahahaha.
The whole exploding piano/xylophone trick on the ukulele blowing up on Nathan was classic/sweet.
The whole triple attack on Nathan was so funny, hahahaha.
The boys using the washcloth to save Towelie was great.
I love all the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies references, they were awesome.

After enjoying this great episode, weird with the 4 main boys having little screentime while focusing Jimmy & Timmy.

Pretty good episode, I did get a kick out of the people in the camp were parodies of Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies characters, along with a few MGM characters and gags. But man, that kid just couldn't win against Jimmy.

I must be one of the few people out there that like Towelie, so I didn't mind his side story that much, even if Cartman's hate speech was funny, especially how he got away with it. I actually thought that Towelie had some good expressions, even when he was getting high.

Though to be honest, I was wondering, was there even a subtle jab at last week controversy?

Nathan and Mimsy could have acted like 1990's Warner Bros. cartoon stars Pinky and the Brain.

Lot's of pop up facts - some submitted by the Colorado Department of Wildlife?

I'm not usually a huge fan of episodes like this, and this wasn't really an exception. But it was kind of refreshing after the two weeks of controversy and everyone wondering what their next move would be. In the end, they really just want to make funny cartoons about sharks molesting handicapped elementary school students. And if that's less offensive than an image of Muhammad, so be it.

"Yeah."

The original Towelie episode was so great because it played on the sheer absurdity of it. Every episode of his since has just been about what a druggie he is -- and it's not enough. "Towelie" is one of my favorite episodes (heck, I have a "Don't forget to bring a towel" T-shirt that I wear proudly), but he's been kind of lacking in the writing department ever since.

If it had just been Towelie it wouldn't have made it, but throwing in Jimmy, Timmy and the George and Lenny analogues worked pretty well.

I wondered the same thing as well. Maybe they originally planned to have Towelie, Jimmy and Timmy appearing but they didn't find the right moment in the plotline for an opportunity to let them have a cameo appearance.

Well, that is why we got this episode in the first place. Trey and Matt were probably upset they could not put them in, and decided to work on the old idea of Towlie having an intervention, and put it in with Cripled Summer Camp. Hit two birds with one stone.
