Episode 206: "Coon 2: Hindsight"

A new episode airs tonight at 10 PM Eastern. Here is the synopsis:

I actually haven't been paying any attention to South Park this season, but another Coon episode?

I absolutely loved the first one, so I'll be sure to catch this. :p

Really? An entire team of wannabe superheroes let by Cartman dressed in a raccoon suit?

Oh you just know this'll be brilliant. :D

Wow they were very stereotypical with BP and Louisiana

LOL at BP's manipulative apologies parody and I thought BP stood for British Petroleum?

Mod Edit: Please don't double post. Use the edit button instead. Thank you

Another two-parter?

I really liked the episode, but I don't get why they decided to air this one so far after the spill, especially when this episode was completed before the midseason finale aired.

So, I'm taking it that this is going to be a two-parter (and one of the better ones IMO, given some of the crappier ideas that South Park did for two-parters).

Additional comments:

-We know that Stan is Toolshed, Token is Tupperware, and Timmy is Iron Maiden (it's been a while since we've seen him in action outside of the cripples-focused episodes). Any idea who the other characters are?

-It took a while before I realized that Cartman's beatdown on Mosquito is a parody of A Clockwork Orange.

-Note to Trey and Matt: That is not how you pronounce Cthulhu.

@ chdr: If the episode (and part two, if there is one) were indeed completed earlier in the year, then my best guess as to why it took so long for it to air probably has a lot to do with the fact that Trey and Matt already had a big two-parter planned for the first half of the season (200/201), and with one episode to air after that, they didn't want to end the half-season with a cliffhanger (or do two two-parters back to back).

They aired clips of it during the South Park ads for the spring mini-season.

It seems that Kyle might be Mosquito and Kenny is the mint guy.

Assuming this is a two-parter, South Park barely leaves us hanging on episodes.

Is Kenny Mysteron? I still think he is Craig but you can never be sure.

LOL 201 is still canon by that little cameo on the moon.

Also, Cartman's mom is being more strict on him, maybe after the events of 201 also plays in that scenario?

You know this really needs to be a two parter (which I'm sure it will be. Matt and Trey aren't leaving loose ends of episodes hanging anymore when they know they can get another ep from them) since there are some things I would like to see. Like for example the boys actually fighting some of the dimensional monsters, the Coon trying to get revenge on them, and of course someone pointing out Captain Hindsigth dosen't SOLVE problems but actually just points out what should of been done instead. Really I would of liked one of the boys to at least mention that but they didn't here. Hopefully they'll saving that for the next episode. As for this episode it was pretty good as all the plots had a good amount of jokes.

Hindsight And DP: I'm hoping that they do more with HIndsight next time if he appears since he's a one joke guy outside of him feeling he was outed by Cartman's stunt. The BP/DP stuff was better. Though I think they over did the sorry videos it was a good poke at how BP reacted to the actual drilling crisis. As well as their plans on drilling in more places to solve the problems. Apparently no one told them you can't solve your drilling problems with more... drilling (heh also really liked the callback to the moon with Willzyx and Tom Cruise on it. That joke never gets old if they do it well enough).

Coon And Friends: I kind of wish we had more refrence to the original Coon episode besides just Coon, Mysterion and Chaos appearing but hey with all the other crap Cartman's started it makes sense he and the other boys would try and become their own group of superheroes. Lot of interesting names too (Toolshed as Stan also means that Kenny is the most obvious suspect to be Mysterion. I mean at this point who else could it be. Also liked Mosiquito and Crunched Berry. Not as good as Venture Brother super hero names but still funny) and some good bits: Coon trying to organize the group, Carmtan having to ask his mom to drive them, the Coon having captured Chaos and put him in a cage for 6 days, the Mosiqutio wanting to do a Bake Sale and the Coon beating him up (don't know what the movie refrence is but it seems like an obvious refrence), The Coon being kicked out and the end where he promised revenge. Hopefully we'll see him deliever that revenge in a week.

Overall very interesting ep. Probably not as funny as last week but hopefully we won't find out that Matt and Trey haven't done their reserach and just stole jokes in this one too. And of course hoping that the next part (which there better be) winds up being more epically funny.

Given Stan's reaction during the scene where his parents discuss the fire that Captain Hindsight got involved with, I'm sure he's well aware of the fact that the guy is not the hero everyone makes him out to be (i.e. one that ACTUALLY helps save the day rather than pointing out what was done wrong).

As mentioned in my post, that scene was a parody of A Clockwork Orange (more specifically, the slow-mo scene of Alex beating up one of his fellow Droogs).

So the question mark guy... I thought it was Stan from the end of the last episode but Stan is the tool guy. So who is it? It's not Kyle because we saw him talk to Kyle in the last one.

Caught the last half of this episode. What...it's not obvious Kyle is Mosquito? He talks like Kyle and acts like Kyle. Who else could he be? Who else but Kyle would challenge Cartman like that?

Anyway the superhero stuff was cute. The BP parody was lame.

I thought it was funny....I loved Captain Hindsight, and how people were praising him even though (as his name implies) he didn't do anything to help, just pointed out what they did wrong.....and the boys keeping Butters/Professor Chaos in a cage, and later having him dress up as Courtney Love (so they can make blackmail pictures of him with Captain Hindsight, since he won't join "Coon and Friends").....

As for the kids, aside from the obvious ones (Stan is Toolshed,Token is Tupperware,Timmy is Iron Maiden,etc.)...I think Kyle is Mosquito, and that it's possible Kenny is Mysterion (though who knows, since the joke about Mysterion revealing his face in the last "Coon" episode was that most of the kids' faces are identical, given the animation style)....
