South Park - "City Sushi" - Talkback [6/1]

Call me crazy, but I think the revelation about Dr. Janus redeemed the beyond tired (as someone put it) 'Adults are Idiots' contrivances of the first half.

Nice Psycho reference at the end. I LOL'd at the music.

That's what I was thinking after watching this episode, especially the "return to status quo" ending with leaving him in the Mr. Kim personality so the town can still have a Chinese restaurant.

I honestly can't see how anyone can be that negative about htis episode. I found it hilarious! I could list why, byt then I'd have gone through every single thing about the episode. But especially I think it has to do with the fact that this was a Butters episode, which I always enjoy, and had Lu Kim (one of my favorite South Park characters) in a prominent role. By now it's expected, especially in a Butter's episode, that the adults will usually be stupid or unreasonable. The multiple personality thing was not really out of left-field, I mean Butter's does adopt different personas for hinself when he wants to have fun. The Dr. Janus plot worked well with Butter's reactive nature, and presented some really funny moments. Lu Kim's plot worked extremely well as well because of how he tried to outsmart the japanese suchi bar owner and just the extremes of his hatred of the japenese (which is kinda justified when looking back in history). The episode felt like somting out of season six, and felt enjoyable beginning to end. As for the Lu Kim-Janus reveal, it's not really much of a retcon, because Lu KIm is seen so rarely that it isn't completely impossible. Honestly, this was the best episode of Sout Park since The Coon, and I hope for a lot more quality episodes like this later in the season, and especially for next week's half-season finale.

I loved this episode, I was pretty much laughing throughout the entire thing. Porn Star Butters?! That w as great how they thought Butters had MPD, but the real highlight of the episode was Mr. Lu Kim. He was just as over the top as always, turning his back and rubbing his hands together, almost giving away his plan in the note. The reveal that he's actually Dr. Janus took me by surprise but ended up being funny. No one could tell he's actually a white guy. I'm glad the episode didn't get rid of the Lu Kim personality, they can have him back and nothing has to change.

Also, funny how the reporter mispronounced "City Wok".

This ep was a real double-edged sword. On one hand, the Lu Kim was absolutely hilarious and had me laughing hysterically. On the other hand, the actual plot seemed like the sort of making-it-up-as-we-go-along nonsense you'd expect from Family Guy and post-1999 Simpsons.
