South Park - "201" - Talkback [4/21]

I say the only bad thing about these two episodes are the lack of Towlie, Professor Chaos, Timmy and Jimmy (or did they appear and I just missed them?), and no references to the "Not Without Our Anus" gag.

I guess that is the whole point of this episode, to see how long they can get the censor working. I am betting they just repeated Mohammad over and over again just to get a long censor. That must seriously be the longest censor on any TV show.

HAHA, Tom Cruise dead on the Moon.

The issue here shouldn't be that Mohammed's name was censored.

The issue is they censored AN OPINION. They bleeped the entire ending speech, guys. That should be unforgivable. It's just outrageous.

That is ridiculous, and I have to wonder why Trey and Matt are still working for CC after the channel clearly stabbed them in the back, again. Their current contract runs out next year, I say the two ought to leave Comedy Central behind and try and find a new home for South Park.

It's funny because before I found out the execs bleeped the ending speech literally, I thought it was done on purpose. In fact, I thought they knew about the censors and just worked with it like when Tom Cruise gets Muhammad's "goo" and he gets a censor bar on him.

A great conclusion, too bad there was no part three.

Too bad anout Pip, I liked him.

When that chili carnival came up, it took me a few seconds to remember Scott Tenorman. I guess I should have known he'd come up.

And Cartman's father...I did not see that coming.

I gotta be honest, when the boys started talking about the perfect place, I was thinking Imaginationland. I should have guessed the moon.

I think it was a tad bigger than an empty internet threat.
Honestly, this episode was much more powerful than just showing Muhammad.

I'm a little glad this discussion is still going, but at the same time I feel like it's so obvious that it shouldn't even need debate. Anyone still questioning anything on this topic can watch part 1 and 2 of South Park's "Cartoon Wars" episode from start to finish (well you can't watch it backwards, the audio would be all funky) and the answer is right there. Either everything is okay to poke fun at, or NONE of it is. THAT is comedy. Comedy isn't condemnation, except to lesser minds, like on a first grader's playground at recess. That's all there is to it, other than a few quotes from this thread that I enjoyed.

Fear is not consequences. Fear is what-if's and maybe's, and you only let it effect you yourself. It can also make someone so insecure with their beliefs lash out at someone for saying simple opinions about their faith.

"You can't give in to what HE says just because HE'S threatening you with violence." (quoted Cartoon Wars there. Thanks Kyle. You know, you've always been one of the moral leaders of reason, intelligence, and growth in South Park. And all those times Cartman called you a Stupid Jew, I just wanna say, it's not true: You're not a Jew. lol. South Park movie quote. I love you, Kyle.)

Having been created in America, did South Park get its freedom of speech from luck, or from somewhere else?

What I'm a bit more lenient about is Comedy Central, even though they should know I'm still morally outraged. Comedy Central did what they felt was right, because of the size and scope of the charges they look after. I will never agree with what Jon Stewart (and his staff) said, but I understand why it was said. To an individual, however, he/she knows it's technically morally wrong, especially from the standpoint of an American, in my opinion.

The other side wants to KILL people.....because of WORDS.

Also wrong: I am not angry. I am morally outraged. I have no plans on killing or physically hurting anyone, unless they mess with my country or innocent people. I feel a great swell of pity for anyone who comes by looking for trouble. (woops, was trying to go with South Park paraphrases and quotes but ended up with an X-Men....sorry about that. Great line though.)

Well technically there's a bit of a difference. Revolution Muslim's extremes are immoral, and hippy protesting, boycotting, petition signing extremes are of zero usefulness of any kind.

It's not a show of respect, although comedy very often is, just maybe not in these instances. It's not derogatory either. It may be fiction, but it still has its place. And quite frankly, in my opinion, Jesus is one of the coolest characters in South Park. He always comes through, EVEN THOUGH us stupid humans occasionally accidentally let him die for us.

That is the exact point I make and the exact show/episode/quote I use to make it. Now I can't use it authentically in my post of South Park points and references, and that makes me a saaaad Panda (OH, good save! Sexual Harassment Panda!)

"We will have a version of 201 up as soon as possible," South Park Studios? Cartoon Wars, man. Cartoon Wars. That's all I'll say.

You know, I've learned something today. We should probably remember the stuff we've previously learned, because it's almost always important, and relevant to all of us, instead of just the individuals that live the particular life experience.

That was a great episode. I actually called the Denver Broncos thing (they were, like, the afterthought characters in that situation so it made sense to me; no one would be expecting it because they barely remembered it) but wasn't expecting the whole thing with Scott. I heard his voice but couldn't register who it was at first, though I recognized it; when the chili con thing came up I got it. It was really awesome to see that connection, as well as all the references in general. Really fun, too.

My brother immediately thought Imaginationland, though I though it was something different. I didn't think the moon though, but my mind immediately brought of the orca when they showed the moon.

And Pip! I saw him and was really happy because he hadn't really appeared in a very, very long. Then he got crushed xD
