South Park "200" Talkback (Spoilers)

I've been watching South Park for nearly five or six years now, but the thought of Cartman having a father has never crossed my mind. How awkward. Tonight's episode was nothing special, but I'm certainly looking forward to next week's.

...well, it didn't disappoint. I laughed at the extreme lengths they went with Muhammad.

And the identity of Cartman's father will be revealed? Oh they'd better not do a cop-out next week.

I can't wait for the 2nd part.

I had a huge grin on my face the entire time. The wait for part two is gonna kill me.

Part of me hopes they try to bring back the "April Fools' Terrence & Phillip" gag yet again before the second part begins.

They have done things like this before, where they thought they could do it within one episode, but it just didn't work out. I guess they didn't add those magical words as it does worry people, and both Trey and Matt seem to love to do that. Either that or they decided it to be more than one part later in production, although that seems unlikely as this episode must have been thought out for over 3 weeks.

Me thinks next week is going to be "not without my anus 2", only 10 times stupider and more annoying (assuming they reference it at all)

If anything Ep. 200 was a huge reflection of how much M&T have grown as writers since 1997. (Compare this cliffhanger with the original Cartman's mom is a dirty slut).

I'm predicting a Terrence and Phillip episode too. They've referenced so much in this episode, including the Cartman's father mystery that was put on hold by Terrence and Phillip in the first place, so I'm pretty sure they'll repeat that stunt for old time's sake.

Then again, they also built alot around the Muhammed thing, so they might just do a Terrence and Phillip cop-out like they did during "Cartoon Wars". Speaking of Muhammed, I'm glad they made reference to the fact that they were able to show him way back in "Super Best Friends", yet can't now.

Heck, the only two parter that actually ended with the "TBC" message was the one where the kids take church WAY too seriously and worry about going to Hell.

Well I hope if this is multy parter to see the Imagination Land characters make an appearance. Fictional characters are celebirty's in their own right, so many they want to get in on this Muhammed immunity deal that everyone wants.

Wait, if they do or don't make the next part?

And I agree, next week could be a T&P cop out episode, which would put the conclusion of this story for another week, which would be the last episode of this run.

Also of interest, none of the scenes in the promo were in this episode at all.

Quite an epic end indeed. Cool music combined with many plot going on at once is quite nice. Compared with the last cliffhanger, Pandemic, this one blows it, as well as Imaginationland, out of the water in terms of ending scenes.

I think a majority of the fans would kinda get a kick out of a cop-out this time around. What you guys think, I do not know, but for me, a cop-out followed by another episode concluding this would be great South Park pastimes, for those of us who were too young to remember.

You know, I was wondering why South Park dosen't seem to really refrence it's past too often. Sure it gets the characters down and has them go through what we expect of them but every week it's pretty much a different sort of plot, with only the passing refrences to other episodes. At first I thought it was South Park hating on it's continuity, but I guess they think refrencing the past is rehashing it. Sometimes it is (like when say your entire episode is just a clip show of previous episodes in order to fill for time) but this is far from that. Yes we do get more Tom Cruise in the closest jokes (and something Matt and Trey missed doing last time: having him jump up and down on Oprah's couch like an infant) but it leads up to some very interesting plot and turns involving the celeberties, the Gingers, and the mystery of who Cartman's real father is.

On the Celeberties side we only got to see a few of them actually have any importance, mainly Tom Cruise and Rob Reiner. George Lucas, Paris Hilton, Oprah Winfrey, Russel Crowe and Hilary Clinton had apperences (and Barbrea Stresicand's 3D Mecha form at the end was very awesome) but I wish they had bothered doing more with the celeberites. Sadly as me and others feared they kind of just stuck with a couple to make jokes with. I mean there is another episode (Hopefully) so they can make more jokes about other ones in the next ep, though I guess a lot of the celeberties scenes were pretty much action bad guy cliche. Well if they're doing this again glad to see it's at the very least with people who have been featured before instead of just more generic governement agent types.

Then we had the boys trying to desperatley show Mohammad to appease the celeberties. I guess Matt and Trey are still kind of ticked off about that whole deal or think it's a funny thing worth showing. I do like how they pointed out in the show Mohammad appeared in "Super Best Friends" (and showing all the Best riends being allowed to be made fun of. I really wanted a scene of the Friends admitting why they can be made fun of while Mohammad could. That'd be an excuse for a laugh) as well as the condotions under how Mohammad could be shown. kind of weird that of all the groups they went with to plot against the celeberites they went with Gingers. Then again based off that ad they had making fun of the guy for ripping on Gingers, guess we were due for an actual Ginger bashing in the show itself. Truthfully I think they should of went with other non celeberity related evil forces like Satan's troops, or even those Otters from the future but guess it was a nice surprise. Plus it gives Cartman a chance to infiltrate them again.

Speaking of Cartman I am glad we got a lot of more unique bits with him. From the rehash to the beginning to him coming to the celeberities with "Jennifer Lopez" to try and get some legal cashout. Truthfully I was afraid they'd reuse too much Jennifer Lopez but then they took it in a real interesting direction: they brought back Mitch Connor and had him reveal they covered up who Cartman's Real father was. I was hoping we would get some sort of plotline resolving that (and hopefully this time get an actual answer) but at least this one brought back Mr. Hat (though I hope they remember Mr. Hat was a bit of a hardass in his own right) since hey talking hands should stick together.

A few too many repeat jokes about Tom Cruise and "Jennifer Lopez" and Mohammad but yeah otherwise a very solid sort of epic ep. I didn't expect them to go the action route to celebrate the 200th show but it was a good choice.

Wow, I thought this episode was gonna be rushed, but it looks like we might have a two-parter! I'll LOL if they do a T&P Special that somehow turns back into the show's main plot. Man, 5 years of watching South Park may not be long, but I saw most of the episodes those celebrities were in. What, we get Steve the Crocodile Hunter who's dead but noone from the DC episode? Seeing Mickey again was funny, where was the Joe Bros? When I saw Ginger Kids I really thought the ending was gonna be rushed but instead we got a two-parter. Hopefully that is... great job Matt and Trey! I'm glad the weekdays go by fast for me, so really Saturday and Sunday are my real waiting days. Oh and Most of the clips in the promo weren't in the episode, was that from part 2 or just to pull our leg? But 200 freakin' episodes... I hope some of my friends talk about this tommorow!

I do NOT understand how they keep doing this. I KNOW they keep doing, I can FEEL it, it's the reason South Park is my favorite adult aimed show, and yet they keep throwing me curve balls, some of which characters use as bounce-arounds to travel short distances. Two Hundred Episodes. Two Hundred. This one aimed to be epic and they did an excellent job. I can easily disagree with any opinion that isn't pleased.

OnePark is thinking of Dr. Mephesto. But with the brilliant run of this show (not without its misses of course) I can't see how it wouldn't be obvious that Dr. Mephesto being the dad of Cartman (Jesus it sounds like I'm talking about a soap opera! It's South Park! lol! Crazy train.) is too obvious. Comedy is twists, and throwing you curve balls. If they WERE going to pull a "South Park" and completely stiff us (like the Terrance and Phillip Special as an April Fools joke), the way they'd do it is to NOT have a part 2 to this episode. And THAT would be as awesome as having a 2nd part to this episode, because we'd be able to get off our fanboy soap boxes and stop taking the show so seriously.

Then again, they can make a 2 parter and continue the story because they frankly did to much excellent work on this one, with all the brilliantly sewed together references.

You wanna know how long? I'll tell you how long it's been since we've seen Mr. Hat. I Don't Remember! THAT'S how long! Obviously hardcore south park fanboys know in general that it's when Mr. Garisson finally admitted to himself and the world he was gay, but good lordy so much time has gone by. That's really fun, because I think Mr. Garisson's growth as a character and person has been really poignant.

I had the opposite reaction, which is also my entire theme and feeling of this post. I think all of it was so awesome and in your face that you don't even need a "To Be Continued" message. This episode came into its own, made a huge roller coaster ride, and no one can help but scream as it fires down a steep drop.

I knew MechaStreisand (ooh the spell check is going to love that one) was coming a few seconds after I heard Tom Cruise say the word "she" and they cut to the next shot. She looked so awesome: even more symbolism of how far the show has come, and how the show can now "use a bull dozer to build a sand castle" as it were. It also makes me happy I'm DVRing the 1st American season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and they're up to the Green Ranger origin, because now I feel like seeing Dragonzord. Tommy's zord could totally total that thing, despite it's awesome upgrades, BUT this show is comedy first, and good vs evil drama second (or third or where ever it goes depending on what the story calls for).

I wish I knew what else to say. Even if they left it at that, I'd definitely be satisfied. Although Trey and Matt have realized the "mistake" they made after they got the fans reaction. Apparently, the April Fools joke from years ago was a bit too clever for the South Park audience, because they didn't think it was a funny joke. I did, and I still do.

The Ginger kids addition was probably the most brilliant part, because the main antagonist to the town of South Park is Terrorists (for lack of a better term!). Since we occasionally get all deep with what happens in a South Park episode and go really far into the "why," then I can picture those ginger kids getting all terrorist-like and angry simply because Cartman brought them together. If Cartman hadn't tried to use them, they wouldn't have banded together and realized, "yeah, you know what, I AM really angry!" It's like a "what goes around comes around" kind of thing.

As an old man, it's hilarious that fans who have only watched the show for 5 or 6 years never thought about Cartman's father. It was the subject of a two part episode from season 1 and 2.

Aaah I wish I was more clevererer but I'll just end my post....

I just want to say, that personally, the biggest laugh of the episode (not to say that the rest was not funny, everything was fantastic) was the first sight gag of Harrison Ford being a slave to George and Steven.

Speaking of which, anyone noticed the scene with Tim Burton, with Tom Cruise giving reasons on why SP would make fun of him?

That scene made me laugh, because Tim Burton never appeared in SP before this episode.

And I know exactly when Mr. Hat was written out: in "The Death Camp of Tolerance" from season 6. I only know that because I saw the episode when it came out. Seeing him appear again was a pleasant surprise.

Wait, remember that scene from South Park Studios (referenced in another post above)? What if that is actually part of the next episode, like Cartman inflitrates the Gingers to make money. I wonder if they had it planned out it was going to be 2 parts that long ago though, but that isn't something you want to reveal, so there is nothing we can know for now in terms of production, but until season 14 is released on DVD of course.

That clip, as well as others, such as one of Cartman obtaining a crap load of military weapons without needing to show ID, were released in the week leading up to the season premier, likely just created to create buildup for the season, not related to any episode in particular.
