I disagree. It's not a direct factor, but a piece that has both gripping features and complexity is often the best stuff. Complexity is also not simply instrumental technicality, like many attribute it to. A lot of music people think is simplistic on an initial listen is actually not.

I think so as well, and I'd rate Cornell a notch higher. What do you think of Cornell's regular singing voice, outside of his higher end rasp, wails and screams?
