I think they do sometimes. It's not like a tradition though (at least I don't think so).

Yeah, I agree, you can't really compaire the two, MP and SOM. At least with SOM if you are singing the songs like I was one time in high school there will be people who will understand and not make fun of you. Whereas if you are singing songs from MP, people tend to look at you funny. And you can drive your mom nuts with So Long Farewell. (My mom dircted a school proudction of SOM, she still cringes everytime someone sings that song.)
