Soul Searching- Looking for a reason to stay with TMO

I've been reading the threads throughout rabroad and all the hot topics. And I've come to a point where I can't really defend staying with TMO any more (plus Im really bored at work at this particular moment).

I've been with TMO a VERY, VERY long time. Service has been consistent, never really had any issues unless it was to order a new berry which has always been an ordeal within itself. I actually got a call from an executive VP's assistant when I got new 8320 because I was forced to jump through hoops and I complained about it. Situation was resolved in the end. But the fact that I had to basically go on the warpath to get situation resolved irked me.

No BOLD, No STORM, delayed 3G- seems like TMO is always late to the party.

I'm curious to know, why do you stay with TMO? What made you switch to TMO?

Or if you switched to another carrier, what was the final straw for you?

I'm beginning to get irked like you. I have been having service issues and it seems like I can't get any help. As soon as I pay this bill, I may be gone.

I have been with TMO since I got my first cell phone, which was in 96. I think it's been 2 or 3 different companies before the name changed to TMO. I stay because of the price first of all. I have three lines, and pay less than 120 a month, including the unlimited BB for me. I have looked around a lot, mainly because I love to get new phones every couple of months, but i can't see paying so much more. There is no 3g in my area, so that does not affect me, plus I have the wifi at my house, so that's not an issue for me. I also got lucky and have a rep at my local store that is great to work with. I don't usually have to call for anything. I did have to call CS last week for a number change because the person who had my number before did not pay any bills so there were bill collectors calling all the time, and they did not charge me for the number change, which I was fully expecting to do. Don't know if that helps at all, but I am bored at work too!!

I switched to ATT, because I was offered a discount through my job (19% off of the data & 15% off voice). I could not pass up this offer! The other reason why I was planning on leaving is due to them charging me for another BB when I confirmed that the white sticker was really white; also had the customer service rep at the store put a note in my account that he verified it also.. In the end they still charged me $150 for a new BB. I had the device warranty... I emailed the corp off and no resolution ever came about! So, T-Mobile stands for TERRIBLE-Mobile..... I have not had any issues with ATT since the jump and it has been 1 year since the switch and I am not looking back..........

I too have been soul searching recently about my stance at TMO.

Background of Provider history:

I originally started with ATT with my BB 8700c. Loved it for a long time and never had any issues at all. Had great service and never had a bad customer support story with ATT. When the iPhone came out I jumped on the band wagon and the great part is ATT never made me sign a new contract nor took my upgrade privileges away. Loved the iphone until I started to get my push-email withdrawal. I couldn't take it so I needed to get a BB again. Went back to my old 8700c.

Later the Curve came out and I wanted to upgrade. Saw that curve on ATT had GPS and curve on TMO had Wifi. I really wanted the wifi but the real reason I moved to TMO was the prices. The BB plan was $10 cheaper with TMO. Also my cousin, mother, sister and some others were on TMO.

However, the problems began to roll in:

1. I didn't have service in my bath room at work. Most of you may be disgusted by this but other know how important it is to have service in the bath room especially at work .

2. TMO edge was way slower then ATT edge. When the original iPhone was release ATT boost their edge speeds to help mask the slow loading times of the iphone browser. This inherently gave all edge devices a boost in speed including my old 8700c. so the question I had to ask was: Why hasn't TMO upgrade their edge yet???I was browsing faster on my old 8700c then i was on my new TMO curve.

3. I began to realize that the low cost of my TMO service compared to my ATT service was highly affecting my call quality and my dropped calls. I began to have really spotty service in my house and edge network would drop out several times during the night. So I'd wake up and not be connected to edge and not get an email all night. The only resolution I had was to have my phone connected to my wifi all the time. Also the number of dropped calls had dramatically increased with TMO. I had to ask my self, is it worth paying the extra 10 bucks to have peace of mind with my service?

4. Sh*tty customer service reps that don't know what the hell they are talking about. At this point the Bold had been released on ATT but I still had about 15 months on my TMO contract. I decided to put up my contract on Cell Swapper and have someone take it over and offer my BB curve. But before this I had confirmed twice on two separate phone calls to TMO CS that i would be able to port my number out and the person taking the contract would be able to get a new number. Someone finally took over the contract and the deal was going to be completed. I had a run in with this evil CS rep that tried to blame me for "finagling the system" according to him. In any case I argued my case that i was simply selling my contract to a person that they would still get their money off the contract. All I wanted was my number back that I had ported in from ATT. At the end I had reached my limit with TMO and their BS. I decided not to fight it any more. I gave up my number and ordered my BB Bold on a new ATT contract and Number.

In the end TMO did now show me any love regardless of the fact that my family members have been amazing TMO customers for 10+ years. They did not want to work with me nor give me any incentive to stay with them. Saving the extra couple of bucks was not worth keeping my sanity. I should have never left ATT in the first place and the peace of mind I had with them.

Plus TMO and no bold or storm till MAYBE next year. HA!

I heavily rely on email on the go for personal reasons and I'm not getting my email. I have sent several emails to TMo about this and have not heard one reply.

I've been with TMO for almost two years now. Started out with a Razr, went to a Pearl, and have had my Curve for about a year now. With each "upgrade" in phone, upon signing new contract, I was given the same price on the phone as if I was a new customer (not what TMO shows on their website for upgrading!!)

The only issue that I've had is where I've moved in the past few months. There is only GPRS service where I live and work. Fortunately, I have wi-fi at home. I've had no issues with the wi-fi service in any way.

My Curve is reliable, my wi-fi is reliable.

The MyFaves package is what sold me. At work, we have a main conference call number. I do IT support work for a warehouse, and any time there is an issue, everyone jumps on a conference call. I've been on calls longer than 8 hours before. It is so nice to be on a call, go out for lunch, or go home for the day, and not be tied to the office. One month I had over 1500 minutes on conference calls on my phone. Having MyFaves saved me from being tied to the office!

If TMO would bump their service to EDGE and turn up the local transmitters where I had consistent service in the building where I'm at, I'd be a very, very happy camper.

Without taking this thread to a new level - have you tried different TMO stores? I went to a couple of different ones, talking to the local manager of each, until I found one that wanted to cooperate.

I've done the same with car dealerships. Now, when I'm thinking about a new car, I go to my "favorite" dealership, walk in, and the new car sales manager greets me by name. Asks me what I'm interested in. I tell him, he tosses me keys and asks me if I want to take it out for an hour or so, or keep it overnight.

It's all about developing the proper business relationships.

Just like in all aspects of life, there are good guys and there are bad guys. Find the good guys, treat them right, they'll treat you right, and everyone wins!

I've tried individual stores, but found I had more luck calling TMO directly. At the end of the process I got a great deal for my curve, but once again its the fact that I had to basically raise hell and go to war for it that is bothering me. Particularly since I been a customer for such a long time. I just looking to see others feedback and experiences because I don't have one glaring problem with TMO but I do have a few small problems and I wonder if that warrants a carrier change.

I was with tmo from april 2006 until last month. Tmo is just not great at bringing the latest products to market. Also, I get a 24% discount on my new att service through my employer. Att has better network coverage for my needs, is cheaper than tmo for my needs, and now I've got a bold!

I have been with T-mobile since 2000, when it was voice stream in the Seattle Area. I joined them because of At&t wireless had the crappiest cell coverage of any company. I had full service with them in Eastern WA, which I would go maybe once a year, but in Bellevue...I had no service. finally I switched to voice stream. I had full service in Bellevue, Kirkland and Seattle....The service has been very consistant over the years. In 2000, the same places on the road where I would drop calls are still there in 2008 but I overall the service is good. Then I moved to Issaquah. I have no service in my building (Condo) No service in the basement, 1 bar in our living room. This part really bothers me because if I didn't have a UMA, I would be dropping T-mobile. I have been a very loyal customer for many years, almost 8. They have been great to me but the only thing, I have no service at home or at work. This is a big issue.

Anyway, My contract ends in August, and I will be looking for a change but I probably will stay with t-mobile for the price. I am interested in the DARE or whatever phone will be available for Verizon, Verizon has full service at home and work... I might go to them. I do not like AT&T because of my service from 1997-1999, I know they are a different company but I bet many of the same people work there. I will not be back to AT&T unless hell freezes over.
