"Soul Eater" Talkback

Now that Funi announced they have it, my next worries are what voice actors will they choose for the characters! DX

I must say though, I really like the idea that Jason Liebrecht playing Soul. Definitely can pull off trying to be the "cool" guy.

I loved that moment where he goes from the cutsey voice to the ultimate machismo badass "SHINIGAMI CHOP!" I nearly pissed my pants, that was so kickass

And indeed: ultimate fail all around. Can't wait to see the other deathscythes animated, especially little miss eyepatch and the chick with the glasses (the names escape me)

I'm worried about what they are going to do with the second half of the series, if they are indeed sticking with just 50 or so eps. Considering that they are pretty much doing a chapter per episode and chapter 50 is by no means the end of any of the plot points at all. One of two things I think they should do:

1. Pull a FMA up to a point. Find a place to stop following the manga and make thier own kickass finale to the show.
2. End the show at a cliffhanger and hope there is enough rurabling of the fans to get a new season started

They have enough material for about 25-30 more eps or so
1 ep a week = 6-7 months. since the manga is a chapter a month, thats 7 more chapters by the time they catch up to whats going on now with the manga. If they do want to continue ala Bleach, Naruto or One Piece, major filler neeRAB to be added oooooor there neeRAB to be a good hiatus. Or quite possibly both

Some of the new characters finally appear today.

The next opening should be appearing soon. Made by Tommy Heavenly6/Brilliant Green, the same band that did "Pray" from Gintama and "Ash Like Snow" from Gundam 00.

I'm expecting it to be awesome and Halloween themed.

She actually used her weapon ability, which is pretty much a hammer on her hand, so I don't know if Bones is just making stuff up for her or the mangaka tipped them off.

She did pretty well on Medusa but then of course, "OH NOES, STEIN'S CRAZY I CAN'T BEAT HIM SO I WON'T EVEN TRY."

Much as I love this show, I hate the fact that they can't time comic relief to save their lives. The Big Bad just woke up, launching a new era of madness and terror, and yet between the crowd mooning over Blair and Nezumi, the fourth-wall-breaking BING BING BING sound effects, and the bizarro antics of the Grim Reaper, it's impossible to have any real sense of tension or danger. Free and Eruka's hallucinations and the scene where the Demon God's body formed up all had a stronger sense of dread than this entire episode.

Yeah, but that's the sort of thing Soul Eater is. That and they did have to introduce the new characters. D: What do you expect them to do? Be filled with dread, and "We're gonna die now that the Big Bad is out, oh noes"?

SE 25 spoilers:

No he didn't. He's right there with Eruka and the mouse witch.

This is the same band that did the D. Gray Man first opening right? Yeah, I figured it would sound dark.

Ashura looks a lot like Light when his eyes are glowing like that.

Although I like Soul Eater as a show, stylistically I think it suffers. The manga's drawing style is incredibly unique and dark, and although the anime tries to emulate that, it often doesn't live up to my expectations. The madness shown through Atsushi Ohkubo's artwork isn't conveyed as well through the series. That's not to say that the series doesn't look nice--it just doesn't look as nice as the manga at this point. Although the Festival Arc was done very well and it was everything I hoped it would be.

The soundtrack is good too, but I always pictured it to have more electronic pulses and beats within the music. Kind of like some of the songs on Radiohead's Amnesiac. I think "Like Spinning Plates" fits perfectly for some of the stronger scenes of insanity.

I'm forseeing a lot of comparisons to the manga's Mifune fight next week, but even if it was adapted directly from the chapters, it would probably be a bunch of slashes against a black background for censorship anyways.
