It actually wasn't a filler! Hero the Brave is in the manga too--this episode was adapted from an omake at the end of volume 9.

Hope he's not vaporized, he's my favorite character along with the Wolf Man (I'll just call him that since characters shouldn't be named adjectives).

...Although he looks more like a lemming than a wolf.
