Sorry but I have to have a rant about the drinking age.....?

Okay so they want to stop under 18s from drinking, That is people say 13 - 18 years old.
So why the hell may the drinking age go up from 18 to 21? I really don't understand how you can smoke, buy porn, kill people in the army, bla bla bla but you may not be able to have a pint after work. I really dont understand it, what we need is more education in school and more things for under 18s to do in there spare time....
Not punishing people aged 18, 19 and 20 :S Why are they targeting 18+ if the problem lies from people age 13-18.......
 
I'm in America where the drinking age is 21, and it sucked. I got a "minor in possession of alcohol" charge one week before my twenty-first birthday. Really pissed me off.

Maybe it's a way to get extra revenue, because I had to pay about $400 in fines and court fees. Easy money for the city.
 
you are quite right. it would frankly be ridiculous to grant an 18yr old every imaginable legal right, yet deny them the freedom to have a bevvy. it is a stupid idea. some countries that already have this system think it worls fine for them, thats ok its up to them, but it sure as hell better never be introduced here. think of all the poor students such as myself who would be denied the opportunity to take advantage of a few years of freedom before we enter the drudgery of real life!
the correct solution is as you say education and fixing the culture surrounding alcohol.
 
OK stop ranting. Firstly it is a ban against people buying booze in shops and supermarkets - not pubs, bars and clubs. And it is not happening.

So enjoy your beer.

And the reason is simple - most binge drinking is done by the under 21's - and it is done away from pubs and clubs. The reason being that they would be refused to be served in pubs if they where to drunk the same check is not in place for supermarkets. I can get a bottle of vodka in a supermarket for less than 2 pints. I can go and drink that bottle in the street - insult passers by, make a nuisance of myself and pass out in a pile of vomit and need hospital treatment.
