Sore throat for too long

I have mild sore throat for more than two weeks now without any other symptoms, which I never had before - it bothers me a lot. I went to my doctor 1o days ego, he took my throat culture and sent it to a lab - came back negative, but he gave me antibiotic Zitromax anyway. After taking it for a week it didn't make any difference.
Last winter I was diagnosed with staph aureus bacteria in my nose, which in the winter time occasionally irritates my nose inside, making it swollen and red, creating like internal pimples. I wonder if this bacteria can spread to my throat and make it sore, or is it something else? Please help!

Have you tried gargling with warm salt water? If that takes care of the sore throat, then it's not an infection. It would then probably be allergy or PND related.
