sophomore dance? what to wear? im a guy? pretty formal?

This is like the first dance I'll ever be going to so idk what to wear and stuff. Its for sophomores and its in our gym kinda thing (they're fixing it all up for it tho). so idk what im wearing (suit, tux, etc????) i think its kinda formal. please help.

also, if anyone could give me a rundown of what the dance will be like
i'm going with a friend of mine
