So tonight we had a cook-out with some friends. When the night was over, I had a TON of mosquito bites -- at least 25, all over, even fingers and toes. None of the other 5 people that were there had that many bites -- maybe 2 or 3, but that's it. Why did I get so many when no one else did? It seems like every time I'm outside, even to just get the mail, I get mosquito bites. What is it that makes them like me soooooo much, and others not so much?

I can sympathize with you, I am the same. Anyhow, I think there are things in peoples body chemistry that make them more attractive to mosquitoes. Probably dietary considerations as well. I have read that eating bananas is one of those foods that will make someone more attractive to mosquitoes. But, from experience , I am not so sure. My grandmother had to eat a lot because of PO deficiency, and she never got bitten. She consumed lots of garlic with her diet. She always thought that is what kept them at bay for her. I eat tons of garlic avoid bananas, and still get bitten more than anyone around me. And when someone is more attractive than other people they wil be sacrificial and keep others from being bitten even less. I have one nephew that I love to be around when outside in the evening because he is obviously the only person i know that is more desirable than I am . I never get bitten with him around :)

There's been research on this and apparently if a person is never or rarely bitten, (like some of your friends tonite) it's because they (your friends) give off a smell that MASKS the scent that mosquitoes like. It's as if your pals had their own built in mosquito repellent (chemically speaking)!

Scientists have been trying to find out which smells attract or repel mosquitoes. (Yes, that's where some of your tax dollars are going!) and so far they've found about 30 chemical compounds out of 300 that can protect people.
The only reason the repellent sprays we buy in the drug store work is because they mask the body odors mosquitoes like.

Apparently, the mosquitoes liked the way you smelled tonight.

Hope you have some calamine lotion handy!
