SONY xperia X10 phone:Will not charge up for nothing, NEED HELP!!!!?

I have a sony xperia x10 phone, it will not charge up. I went out and bought a universal charger from walmart, it wouldn't charge. Didn't trust the charger, so I took it to the at&t store down the street to see if there official USB could charge up the phone, nothing work, it did not charge niether. They guessed and said something was wrong with the charger outlet on the phone. I was wondering is that really the case??The battery is dead and when I hit the power button it blinks red a few times, guess that means its dead. Idk what to do, I looked up this problem (phone not being able to charge) from the computer, other's had this problem, there problem was the battery went bad, I hope thats the case for me as well??Its nearly a new condition phone, does anyone have answers.????Thanks
