Sony Vegas cannot import a file?

I'm what you'd call a "Vidder" or Video editor on youtube, and I've just ripped my DVD's for use on Sony Vegas and it's in the right format, and I've used the VLC video recorder to record my DVD, and when I import the file...it only shows the first 2 seconds of what I taped. I know I've recorded the whole movie because it comes up with the whole thing when I open it in Media Player for Windows. Urgh, this is so frustrating! help?
