Hi there,
I have a major nightmare on my hands. I just sold my VAIO VGN-FS415S and reinstalled XP Pro. Everything works fine, apart from the wireless. I have tried everything under the sun:
I downloaded every driver off the Sony site for my machine, and every util. Nothing works! I tried disabling, I tried the physical switch on and off, updating driver and pointing it to the wireless folder, installing "wireless starter" program. Nothing...it's dead as a doorknob and I can't send it to the buyer like this.
Key facts:
- It was working perfectly on XP prior to the reinstall.
- The switch is on! Tried switching on and off.
- I installed the official driver several times.
- I have clicked on update driver and manually navigated to the folder - still no joy.
- Network connections does not show the wireless connection at all.
- Wireless network icon not appearing in system tray.
- I have re-downloaded the driver just to be sure and tried again...
- Rebooted several times.
It just says "network controller" in device manager with the exclamation mark and won't acknowledge it is a wireless connection. I am desperate here - any help appreciated.
Is there a generic wifi driver I can download and use? Here is the spec:
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/specifications/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-FS415S
Thanks.
