sony ericsson k790a - probelm installing hardware

can anyone help with this, i am a new cell phone user:

when i plug cellphone into the computer a message comes up found new hardware:

sony ericsson device 049 driver - after a bit i get there was a problem installing the hardware sony eric. device 049 - an error occurred during installation of device - sytem cannot find file specified(i have disk in)
so i cancel
then found new hardware comes up again:
this time its says: sony eric. device 049 USB WMC modem, then i get after a bit - windows unable to install modem, so i cancel
then i get
sony eric. 049 USB WMX OBEX interface(istead of going thru the process again i cancel, now i get:
sony eric. device 049 USB ethernet emulation(wdm)
again i cancel and now i get:
sony eric. device 049 USB WMC data modem(i cancel)
i assume i am going to get unable for all

does anyone have any idea what this means is it the software - or is it the cell phone

any help appreciated for this problem

Try running all of them. Installing the software for any phone is simple. Try it out again.
 
i tried running it several times, now the phone keeps turning off, i think i got a bum phone, wow not happy.

i even called rogers, they told me to try it on another computer then i should know for sure if its the phone - got a funny feeling it might be, whats next...?

You probably just came across one of the few faulty phones. No manufacturer is perfect, BTW. Sounds like the phone has a faulty EROM. What would be the solution to make the phone to work is to try and update the firmware through Sony Ericsson's Update Service (SEUS). If that fails, you'd have to flash the firmware with a service like wotanserver.com or davinciteam.com. However, using these 2 services would void your warranty with Rogers because you are replacing the Rogers fw with that of the generic fw.

Since this is your first phone (geez, what a lucky lady), save yourself the hassle and use your warranty with Rogers since this phone is carried by them. If you feel that there is something wrong with the phone that you have, call up Rogers support and don't be hesitant to use your service provider's warranty policy. If you have any additional questions, feel free to post any if need be. Welcome to CPF.
 
this is USB driver installation
the driver includes:
generic USB
mass storage (will be installed when the phone is in file transfer mode)
dial-up modem
USB virtual network
USB OBEX
USB serial (for phone tools)
make sure the phone is in phone mode (except mass storage), and the installation CD is present
