Sony DSLR A330 - should I buy it?

I want to get into photography (no experience right now) and my friend offered me his 6 month old Sony DSLR A330 DSLR camera (with the standard lens) for $250. I checked amazon and it sells for 500+. Do you think it's a good deal? And should I start learning DSLR photography with this camera?
