I'm in the market for a digital camera between now and the end of November. I'm looking for an all in one solution (stills and video). Here is what I'm using it for:
* 11 yr olds Sunny outdoor sports activities as well as indoor concerts in low light auditoriums.
* 8 month old on the move and getting faster.
* vacation shots: scenery, architecture, landscapes, people and the dolphin doing the flip at the seaworld etc.
* Normal everyday family shots, holidays etc.
*Martial arts activities such as demoes, fights etc.
*Dance shots (Salsa), sometimes in clubs.
Here is what I expect from the camera:
*Decent image quality.
Not professional but deserving of a "wow" factor for the untrained eye. Ability to print images mostly at 5X7 but the occasional 8X10 would be nice. Seeing my daughter in a low light auditorium from the back row would be awesome. Capturing the moment she hits a Home Run would be a tear jerker. Getting the expression on her freckled face from the opposite end of the field is just a must. (4X optical zoom ain't cutting it anymore!)
*I'd love HD quality video that looks clean and beautiful on a HDTV. I'm the guy that owns the Bluray with all the goodies so full HD would be my geek come true.
*Ability to learn how to use manuel without having to use manual. Sometimes you want to enjoy the moment while it's happening and not after b/c you spent time messing with the camera. Especially when you have little clue what you are doing.
What I'm not interested in:
*A ton of lens.
*The need to do a ton of editing after the fact. (Not ruled out in the future, particularly for video)
Like I said I don't expect professional grade here. I understand that a jack of all trades is usually a master of none. That said I want the best Jack I can get.
So all this said, of the two cameras listed, which is doing the job? The HX-1 seems to have a lot of great reviews from users that fall more into my catergory than the professionals that hate it. The Full HD and 11fps burst of the FZ100 has my attention though. So taking into account that these cameras both offer the feature set I'm looking for ie. burst capability, zoom, full or near full HD, ease of use.....which of the two has the better image quality for the situations I need it for as well as video quality?
I've seen both of these compared to everything else except eachother. Educate me please. Thanks!
